“Probably the best for the money in Lompoc”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2010

I always look for the bargain motel and have spent a night in more than a few "fleabags" As such I've developed my own rating scale for these often overlooked establishments.

We stayed here overnight while on a West Coast road trip.

Check in was quick and easy and the rate reasonable. The place seemed deserted and in the morning I don't think they were 1/2 full.

Our room was clean and looked newly painted. Despite it being marked "No Smoking" there was a faint smell of smoke. They also had an ashtray on the counter with the no smoking sign on the bottom. Why supply an ashtray if you are not supposed to smoke?

The mattress felt swaybacked and lumpy but the sheets were clean. I give the Lompoc Motel 6 a 2 star rating on the "Hoz Fleabag Hotel" scale.

Very clean, conveniently located near the Danish themed village of Solvang for about 1/3 what the Solvang hotels wanted. Staff was very friendly and accomodating (some jerk had smoked in the non-smoking room, and even though I couldn't smell it, my companion could and became asthmatic. Staff changed our room immediately even though we had used the linens, etc.
Ask for a room away from the highway (most are). Remember, this is a budget hotel (although both rooms were nicer than most higher end rooms I've been in), so don't expect all the appointments from a higher end motel, like shampoo, hairdryers, ironing boards, etc. You get soap, TP and towels. That's it. If you want more, go to some place that will charge you two to three times as much.
Internet is available at an additional cost.

Reading some of the other comments, if you've never stayed at a Motel 6 before, please understand what they are. They NEVER have amenities beyond a one-star hotel. So there will never be a hairdryer, clock radio, toiletries other than soap. The blankets, pillows, towels are cheap. (If I am planning a stay, I bring my own pillow and towel). The bedspreads might be the ugliest I've ever seen (fold them up immediately).
That said, for 1/3 to 1/2 the price of most other hotels, ($40 night on a Saturday) you get a comfortable bed, smallish but adequate room with central A/C on the main street in Lompoc, right between the Holiday Inn and the Quality Inn. In this particular Motel 6, the carpeting, walls, and fixtures were in very good condition. There was no mold, no lingering smells, housekeeping was fine. The location is as good as any other hotel in Lompoc, you can walk across the street to Starbucks or the Cajun Cafe for breakfast and to the Albertsons supermarket. (You can even reserve a room with a refrigerator or microwave) Wireless is now available for an extra fee (I didn't try it). The pool always looks clean.

I would recommend asking for a room on the side facing the Holiday Inn. I think there is a little more supervision on this side. I didn't have any noise issues at all this stay, but there have been maybe 2 times out of 7 or 8 stays when I've had to call the front desk and they do take care of it promptly. I've converted quite a few of the folks that I travel with to stay here. We just can't justify paying double or more (even though we can afford it). Must be that depression era mentality.

(BTW you must pay at checkin , this is true at all Motel 6's). Therefore checkout takes about 10 seconds.

We booked a single queen bed with internet access for two nights. We got a double with no internet access. The bathroom was poorly ventilated creating a very humid room after a shower. The carpet was mildly damp with black spots that appeared to be mold. The stay was notable for what was missing, no alarm clock, no shampoo, no breakfast, no apologies - Corporate Guest Relations was totally dismissive of our concerns. There are plenty of other hotels on H street. Try another.

We stayed one night. Inexpensive with good accomodations. The room was clean and comfortable. The reservation and check out procedures all went smoothly. Friendly staff.

This area is well known for its over-priced hotel rooms. I have never once gotten a good deal on a room anywhere near Santa Barbara, unless you call $99 at the Motel 6 in Goleta a bargain. But if you travel a few miles off the beaten path over to Lompoc you can find some low rates, especially at Motel 6. We had a double here on a Friday night in October for only $43. The room was standard issue, clean and well-maintained, no cigarette or pet odor. The property seemed very well maintained, although I can't say the same for some of the guests. But that's to be expected at these places. If you're in the area for business or pleasure and just need a bed and bath for the night at a cheap rate, the Lompoc Motel 6 fills the bill.

It's a Motel6, so I wasn't expecting much. Room smelled of pet, and a little smoke. Supposed to be non-smoking room, but had an ashtray in the room with a no-smoking symbol on it. I had to laugh at that. Pool was clean, but was closed. Bathroom fixtures and toilet looked worn, but everything worked fine. Shower worked well. Plenty of towels. You get 2 small soaps, no shampoo. There's an Albertson's grocery store across the street, plenty of restaurants and fast food on H Street. There appeared to be a few rooms where people were living there long term. It was pretty quiet, I didn't have any safety concerns. It's your typical spend a night or two and get on the road hotel.
