“FANTASTIC FIND”

Great upscale property in the heart of the wine country just south of Sacramento. The Wine and Roses Hotel has ambience of a Tuscan Villa. Beautiful grounds, knowledgeable staff, well appointed rooms and wonderful restaurant/lounge located in what's being called "the new Somoma". Our stay was extraordinary! We'll be back!

Room Tip: The hotel has rooms on two floors and does not have an elevator. If you're traveling with a lot...

We came to CA for a family birthday celebration. They recommended Wine and Roses for our stay in the Lodi area. We loved it! We had a comfortable, beautiful and spotless room overlooking the gardens. We enjoyed sitting on our patio as well as the pool and restaurant area. We'd stay again in a heartbeat!

Just home from our TravelZoo overnight at Wine & Roses. It was a blistering 106 yesterday which definitely impacted our visit to Lodi but perhaps made the hotel even more of a standout. Our King room was lovely (39)...huge, nice balcony and great air conditioning. Super comfy bed/linens, large bath and all the amenities one could need. MUCH nicer than many. We swam in the afternoon....nice pool but the poolside service could have been better...as there was none! The water "pitcher" was empty, no one asked if we wanted a drink and the space was a bit dirty....BUT the pool was lovely and is saltwater. Dinner....we ate in the lounge and had a great meal and excellent service at a far more reasonable price than the restaurant (with tip $125...still pricey but not extreme). Service...across the board everyone was so nice and gracious. When traveling to Lodi for wine or the sandhill cranes....or both, we would definitely recommend Wine & Roses.

Room Tip: We loved room 39 (upstairs) but the air conditioner was a bit noisy.

I cannot say enough good things about this place. My family and I stayed 4 nights at this wonderful hotel while visiting relatives and loved every minute of it! From the moment we arrived to the time we checked out we were welcomed with warm smiles and outstanding hospitality..not to mention the accommodations are a far cry from shabby! After we checked in, got our things situated and explored our charming room we recieved a phone call from an attentive staff member checking in to make sure we had everything we needed. The room we stayed in was very well kept and situated right next to the spa. Between the large patio and luxurious bathtub it was definitely hard to leave this oasis! The next day my mom and I explored the beautiful property and treated ourselves to a facial and massage at the spa...my OH my, the spa!! The spa staff was very informative and extremely delightful. We thoroughly enjoyed their services! (I recommend Sidni for facials, she is wonderful!) My mom had a lovely masseuse named Nora and swore it was the best massage she has ever had. Make sure to make reservations for the spa ahead of time so you don't miss out! Now, onto the Towne House Restaurant. If you're like me, you love to eat. And if you love to eat, then you need to go to this restaurant! They have a serene view from the patio, and a savory fresh menu you can't beat. Delicious! This hotel is a perfect getaway from everyday life. With it's quaint and elegant charm, I highly recommend it and cannot wait to go back!

We chose the Wine & Roses hotel partly because it was close to the Wine Tasting Centre of Lodi - and in the end never visited it! We had 2 days touring the area wineries and never felt the need to go to the Centre.

The hotel is very upscale - rooms are huge, beds immensely comfortable and the bathrooms furnished with every luxury you need, from giant tub to fancy toiletries. The grounds are delightful, with many interesting nooks (one containing parrots in a large cage) and incorporating the restaurant, a bar and al fresco seating areas.

We ate in the restaurant one night and, while the food was very good, it seemed overpriced to me. Five of us shared 3 bottles of mid-list wine with dinner and ended up paying around $100 per person - I would expect to pay maybe $60 for the equivalent meal in San Francisco.

The bar had live entertainment on the Friday night that was excellent, though the sound spilled into the restaurant.

I'd definitely stay there again, but would try downtown dining instead of the hotel restaurant.

Room Tip: All the rooms seem good.

Aside from the internet not working the first day, and the absence of room service for breakfast (normally available at a hotel of this caliber), we had a pleasant stay at Wine & Roses...right up until check-out time. More on that to come.

The complex is enormous, well-landscaped, and a pleasant place to walk aroundadmiring the flora and fauna (resident parrots). We were glad the grounds were nice, because there is literally nothing else near the hotel - just a gas station and strip mall - the neighborhood is definitely nothing special. The fitness center is excellent by hotel standards, and the pool and hot tub are beautiful, both just the right temperature. The restaurant is a little overpriced and the food is average, but it's adequate, with a nice patio for outdoor dining. Some of the hotel staff were very friendly, and some not so much.

The room was excellent, one of my favorites I've stayed in. I loved the dark faux-wood floors and dark brown walls, which created a pleasant calm atmosphere and a nice dark, air-conditioned retreat from the brightness and very high temperatures outside. The bed was extremely soft and comfortable, and since sleep quality is one of my main criteria for a positive hotel stay, I have to give high points in this area, even though there was quite a bit more sound-bleed from the room below us than I would normally like (we could hear their TV until quite late, but fortunately it turned off before we were ready to sleep). The bathroom was clean and bright white, and the shower was fantastic (another crucial factor, in my opinion).

So the stay was all positive...except when the 11:00am checkout time rolled around and we were running late due to some unforseen circumstances, the staff we spoke with at the front desk were extremely inflexible with our check out time, even telling us that our room card would automatically be de-magnetized at 10:55 am. Most hotels have a checkout time of noon, and to be realistic, we're talking about an enormous place with a lot of rooms, so it seems reasonable that the cleaning staff might be able to leave one room until later, if someone needed to stay for an extra hour or so. In fact, earlier in the week, a cleaning person showed up at the door to clean the room at 4:30 pm, once we had already returned for the day (which seemed awfully late). So we didn't quite understand why the hotel couldn't be a bit more flexible and give us some leeway. No, we had to be out by 11:00 sharp. We were rushing like crazy, and when it got to be 11:05 and we were stil making trips to the car, they actually called us "to see if we needed any help with our bags," which strikes me as a thinly-veiled passive-aggressive euphemism for "you're five minutes late; get the hell out of your room." Needless to say, I was not pleased about this, having spent a lot of money there during our stay.

Unfortunately for the hotel, the checkout process is the last thing the guest remembers. So while we were otherwise pleased with this establishment up until that moment, it really doesn't matter, because now this will always be what we remember about Wine & Roses. If you had asked me an hour before that if we would return and stay there again, I'd have said yes, definitely. But now, in spite of the beautiful room, comfortable bed, and relaxing pool, I'd say probably not. Hotel experiences start and end with customer service, and in this case, Wine & Roses fell short.

In Lodi for a wedding, many of us stayed at Wine and Roses. It is a quiet and lovely spot close to town with a feeling of serene country living. The grounds are green and lush, hard to do in a very hot area of Northern California. A very nice restaurant provides three meals a day, a wine tasting center offers sips of local wines, there is a swimming pool and spa and there is no reason to leave the grounds unless you must! Employees are helpful and very pleasant, always interested in making your stay comfortable and luxurious. And it isn't as pricey as one might expect. It was our second stay and we will undoubtedly return.
