We got off a plane in Oakland, on way to Livermore and were a little peckish, so I had to figure where to go and eat. I always give thanks, where thanks is due, so thanks again to Trip Advisor, my husband and found yet another good place to eat.
Downtown Livermore is a wonderfully architectural little town-I saw some fantastic buildings and can't wait to go back with a camera. But back to the review......
As soon as you walk in the door at Uncle Yu's, you are wrapped in sort of a 'zen envelope'. Even though there is a bar to the left, the sound isn't loud and offensive, so you can just take a deep breath and are brought to your table to enjoy the ambience.
The decor isn't pretentious, it has Buddha heads, low lights and dark relaxing colors. The tables have white tablecloths, a good sign to me that you know your dining experience would be something special. One wall was mirrors; extensive wine racks gave credibility to the extensive international wine list. You can also eat outdoors, if you wish. And next to the outside I saw fountains. Let's face it, water features are great relaxing places to be.
Joan, our waitress, was lovely. I got green tea (a definitely de-stressor) and my husband had wine (we're in California! DUH!) My husband does 'spicy hot' foods, so he got General Tso's chicken, I got Lemon Chicken, with a sauce that tasted like lemon, vanilla, and ginger. YUM. Both were joyously delicious. It was a deliciously cooked chicken with a crunchy crust. And my husband loved his General Tso's.
I see that this is a chain, and if there are more of these places in towns where I visit, I will absolutely look them up and go!
