First, the disclaimer: This was my first vineyard restaurant experience, so I may have been caught up in the whole grapevine, sunset over the hills, winemaking estate thing. That having been disclosed, WOW!
The drive from Livermore center is not what I expected, and when you get to the edge of the vineyard, you're not even close to the entrance. I felt like I had somehow missed the place and then the stone pillars and the Wente sign, thelight in the restaurant was so inviting as it was getting dark.
Inside was just what you would expect, like a scene from a movie, very rich and tasteful. There is a bar, which was great for me since I was travelling alone on business when I visited. This is a small bar, but just right for the setting.
There are wines on the wine list that must be reserved for the restaurant, because I have never seen them for sale since learning of Wente a few years ago. I NEVER drink Chardonnay, but I have had Wente chard. and it is fantastic.
The prices in the restaurant are outrageous, but who cares, this is not a place to go for "cheap eats". It is a lovely experience. The food was excellent, but the service, atmosphere, the wine and the overall experience were wonderful. I would have loved to share it with somebody!
I found it odd that the wine shop closes at 6:00. Wouldn't most people pick up a case or two after driving all that way and having such a beautiful experience?
