“Wonderful Weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2012

The fact that I was traveling without children may have helped bumped this review to a 5, but even with kids it would have been at least a 4.5. When I review a hotel, I write it for hotels with comparable prices. I know there are hotels in the area that are more exclusive and quiet, but they are also more expensive.

My positive experiance started with making my reservation - I booked well in advance and let them know it was our anniversary, and they went out of their way to reserve the best room in our price point. (This was a splurge for us, I would not normally spend over $200 on a room.) When we arrived we were in the room he had reserved for us, there was a convenient wood storage area next to the door for the fireplace, the fireplace was set inside, and there was a card with 2 AWESOME truffles waiting for us. We had a large room with a couch, table, and a fridge, and everything felt very clean and up to date. THe bathroom was HUGE, as was the Jacuzzi tub. Again, I felt like the bathroom was very clean, and I felt completely comfortable taking advantage of the jacuzzi tub. Another nice thing about this location is that there is a small spa and golf course on site - which we did take advantage of. Both were more than we might pay for a similar experiance closer to home, but I wasn't surprised at the increased price,a s Mendocino is so isolated.

One thing to keep in mind, is that the restaurant does get crowded, but we worked around that by having meals delivered to our room and enjoying our own great view of the ocean!

The hotel is not on the ocean side of Hwy 1, as many people have stated, but we had a second story room with a balcony, and I heard the waves crashing more than I heard any noise from traffic. We were over a grassy area, where kids do sometimes play, but again I spent more time listening to the ocean thatn I did listening to the kids.

I am sure that there are hotels with a more exclusive feel, and which may be even quieter, however, based on what I saw when I was booking our stay, they are also amore expensive.

I gave a 5 because for the price we paid, I felt like we had an amazing experiance, great encounters with the staf, good food, a cozy clean room, and a gorgeous view of the ocean.

Room Tip: If you want more privacy be sure to ask for a room with a private balconby, rather than one of the r...

We loved our stay at this Inn. We had a traditional room, which was perfect for the two of us. Attention to detail in the room was great - dining table and chairs so you could eat and look at the ocean; fridge in the bathroom; plenty of towels; great bed. Chairs and table on the deck outside too. The deck runs along the length of that building with no screens, so not totally private. In all a very clean and comfortable room...blissful with that amazing view.

The owners seem to know very well what makes people tick when they stay away from home. No fuss, very helpful and friendly staff throughout the property.

The bar is great, wonderful atmosphere and a lot of fun. The food was great too. Plenty of people we spoke to said that they have been returning to stay at this Inn for years.

There’s plenty of competition for accommodation in that area. This is the second place we’ve stayed in. The hotel we stayed in back in 2008 in Mendocino itself was absolutely no competition for this one.

We’ve paid more than we paid at Little River Inn, for a lot less elsewhere.

Wish we could have stayed longer, hope to go back.

Let's cut to the chase, without the stretch of the rugged ocean view to enjoy from the porch and close-by Mendocino there really isn't compelling reason to stay at the LRI. Although the staff is friendly and the restaurant excellent (for both dinner and breakfast), the accommodations are tired-- original without being "retro". The public spaces (lobby, sitting room and bar) have lots of historic pictures which give an interesting perspective on the area, but are not too appealing to spend time in. We left the Bay area late in the afternoon not realizing that the last portion of the drive would exhaustingly long and winding. As a stop over destination along a coastal road trip, it's not a bad place to stay one night. We stayed in a second story room with ocean view but a road separates the property from the sea so it was disappointing that we could not easily access any path to walk directly along the ocean. I would highly recommend the restaurant and stay in Mendocino overnight.

Room Tip: Arrive in the daylight to enjoy the view and avoid the dark winding roads

We stopped for one night on our way to the Oregon Coast.

We booked at room in the Van Damme complex which are four units and a cottage located acros the street from the main Inn and situated right on the headlands overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

The room was nice and clean, nothing particularly fancy but the views and privacy were worth the extra cost. Hot tub on the deck and rocking chairs for sitting and watching the surf, birds and stars.

The hotel does offer free wi-fi service and cell phone and 3/4G service won't be found anywhere in the Medocino area.

Room Tip: The Van Damme units are hard to beat but pricey.

Right on the ocean, amazing views. Our room had 2 fat chairs looking out on the bay plus a wonderful deck with 2 rockers. Sunsets are astounding. Breakfast was terrific...also with ocean views. No wireless at all but Skype saved the day. Needs a bathroom makeover and down pillows couldn't hurt either. Helpful and attentive staff

We stayed at the Little River Inn because it was pet friendly. The room was clean but nothing fancy. The view was nice and the grounds are well maintained. The value for the money just isn't there and we left feeling like the place was a bit overpriced for what you get. The big problem is that the sidewalk passes in front of the sliding glass door entrance to the room so it's a trade for privacy or a view, making it impossible to have both. The rooms towards the back of the property seemed to have more privacy. We had someone stumble on our deck in the middle of the night and that didn't help our sleep. I think it's overall a nice place but just a bit overpriced.

Room Tip: If you want privacy, pick something that doesn't have the sidewalk in front of your view of the...

This was our first night in a week long vacation from San Fran up the Coast to Oregon. Unfortunately we got there after dark and wasn't able to take advantage of some of the best points about the hotel. The room was nice, WiFi was good (no cell reception on Verizon or AT&T). Looks like there were movies and books you could check out, but we couldn't take advantage with a quick stop. The view was great the next morning although mostly fog. Made a pot of coffee and sat on the patio watching the waves and the fog. The restaurant on site was great. Pretty pricey if you ordered full entrees. Since we were getting there late, we mostly had appetizers and sandwiches. For a family of 4, with 2 glasses of wine our bill was $100. Most entrees were in the $30 range. Wished we had more time here.

Room Tip: Rooms with 2 Queens are downstairs & with 1 King are upstairs. All appeared to have the same vi...
