“Relaxing spot to get away”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

Stayed in the Whale Watch room at the top of the hill for two nights. Was a great spot with tremendous perched deck to view out over the water / sunset. Breakfast was delicious each morning. Easily located to get up to Mendocino (we visited the Botanical Gardens and town). Also about 2 minutes from Wild Fish (great restaurant).

Only downside was that you had to cross traffic and walk along Route 1 for about 100 yards to get to the Cove access. Definitely worth the brush with traffic.

Rooms were very comfortable and had a very modern New England seaside feel to them. Shower left something to be desired, but jacuzzi tub made up for it.

The outdoor hot tub was a great place to take in a sunset!

Room Tip: The rooms of Whale Watch, Pacific View, and Captain's Watch all seem to be very similar. Captain...

Absolutely beautiful location. We stayed in one of the cottages, and it was so peaceful. The smell of flowers is all throughout the location. The breakfasts were probably the best meals we had while we were there. We highly recommend this as a place to completely relax and unwind. Our dog had a great time, also!

"Guest" review from my wife, who went with friends:
Bed and pillows were most comfortable I've had in a hotel setting.
Breakfast was wonderful. I had the almond flour pancakes and the lemon curd. They were delicious. The fruit was fresh. Even the coffee we made in the room was good and other places that stuff usually is not. Hosts Sandy & Kevin were extremely welcoming and gracious.
Really enjoyed the flowers, hummingbirds, chipmunks and bunnies on the property. The morning view from the breakfast room is like a Disney film.

We just spent the 3 days over the July 4th weekend in the Forest View family cottage. My wife, 2 year old son and Aussie/Border Collie mix had a great time. The grounds are truly dog friendly (I think it was a requirement over the 4th to bring your dog). The cottage included a full kitchen and refrigerator (which is great when you don't want to eat out for every meal). The grounds include a gas grill and fire pit.

This is one of the most understated inns in Mendocino. The staff is friendly. The rooms are immaculate and the grounds are beautiful. Close to Mendocino Village.

Room Tip: The rooms with full kitchens have all the kitchen utensils you'll need.

Our family had an absolutely perfect stay here. Lovely setting near the ocean. Food was especially good and our room was very clean. The staff is warm and welcoming. I highly recommend the Inn at Schoolhouse Creek.

We stayed at the Inn for four nights, and by the end we were sad to leave. We stayed in the Heather cottage, which has a nice ocean view and is surrounded by shrubs. We were there in late June, the flowers were in full bloom, and they attracted hummingbirds that flew to the flowers, ate a bit, and then hovered and stared at us for a few seconds before they flew away. There are little rabbits and chipmunks and other beautiful songbirds the innkeepers attract with daily servings of seeds, so it's like a little woodland paradise surrounded by friendly, well-fed critters, but it's also about a 200-yard walk from a beautiful, secluded beach. The food is excellent, breakfast only, continental style, delivered to our cottage in the early part of the week, followed by hot breakfast in the restaurant nearer to the weekend. There is a hot tub and sauna, so you have your own little self-serve day spa even if you don't indulge in the spa services, which we did by the way and which were also excellent. My partner and I were there with our little boy, who had a great time too. There is plenty to see and do just on the property, but the binder in our room was full of clear and compelling information about what to do all around the Inn- so we had more we wanted to do than we could fit into our four days. Comfortable sleeping, clean and well-equipped kitchen, bright, airy, cozy little cottage, really a pretty nearly perfect four days.

Room Tip: Ocean view cottages are large enough for a family of four, private, and super comfy.

My family stayed in one of the Cliff Side Houses. It was perfect for our family and were sad to leave. We were very comfortable in the beautiful home and enjoyed the glimpses of the ocean from the kitchen, living room and bedroom. The house is beautiful and is stocked with all you need. The kids loved running through acres of property and us adults loved lounging in the hot tub while listening to the sounds of the ocean nearby. Every evening we watched a buck grazing in the meadow next door. Great get away for those in need of some R&R!
