“Hotel/Hostel Mix with funky atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

Located in the Eastern Sierra, near Yosemite's western summer entrance, the El Mono has small rooms with shared bath/shower. Its cute coffee shop is the place to meet locals and visitors sharing convo's, sit on the porch and gaze at Mono Lake, or sit in your room or the cafe and watch the birds. An abundant and colorful flower garden overflows with blossoms in summertime and encourages the birds that compete for feeders. Its a refreshing place to clean off after a long backpacking trip. Has good wireless. Thank goodness there was no TV.

Room Tip: Rooms that face flowers have a great view, but even rooms on the side street have flowers and bird f...

The room at the El Mono was small and cozy, but I was a little bummed to find no TV in the room. Not a big deal, but it's nice to have. Shared bathroom wasn't an issue and the motel was a short walk to dining.

We really enjoyed our stay here. We were in one of the upstairs rooms with the shared bathroom and it was quite cozy. There were never any issues with waits for the bathroom or the shower. The location was excellent and the staff were great. We'd stay here again if we were coming through Yosemite.

I stayed at this adorable place one my way to surprise family camping in Yosemite. It was such a delight. Unique rooms, super clean, great linens, Farthest thing from a I expected. The little organic coffee shop was filled with great energy and visitors from all over the world. There were still colorful flowers in bloom (even though its late summer). Super cool staff made us feel so welcome. We got a room with a private bath which is liked. Loved no TV! There are shared bathrooms in middle of property so get room away from that if you a light sleeper. (doors shutting). Amazing view of Mono Lake. Cant wait to go back.!

Happy to find this gem before entering into Yosemite. Great price, comfortable beds, and nice hot shower in the morning. Very friendly staff and beautiful flower-filled yard with hummingbirds. My only complaint is that we wanted to get and eearly start into the park, but coffee not ready till 7. However was rewarded with home-made gluten free scones that I would like the recipe for. Definetly recommend the room with two single beds.

I stayed at the Mono Motel for one night. For the price I paid I wasn´t expecting a lot and it was a nice surprise.
The Motel is very clean and also the shared toilets and showers, something you not always expect in this type of places.
The only "bad" thing I found is that I didn´t feel very secure in the room. I was staying at the back and the door only had a tiny lock (the one for the key) and it would´ve been very easy to break into my room. So I had to put some furniture in front to block the door just in case. You never know! Lee Vining it´s the perfect town for a serial killer.

Room Tip: Book in advance and get a room in the patio, not in the back. Just for security reasons.

The room was clean and quiet, the service was friendly and efficient. It was exactly what we had hoped for an better, in a convenient location in the centre of Lee Vining, easy to find, but even so peaceful, quiet with flowers - there were even humming birds. I would certainly recommend the motel to any one staying in the area.
