We were pleased with Murphey's Motel in Lee Vining. It's an older place, but the rooms are a good size, clean, and the rates are good. The owner lives onsite and was very nice. The room included wifi, coffeemaker, TV, hairdryer, phone, clock, and a fridge. The sink is outside the bath/toilet area so that's convenient. No breakfast included but that's to be expected at a hotel like this. This is a great location if you want to visit Yosemite's Tioga Pass side and the beautiful, if a bit eerie, Mono Lake. Take a short trip up the road to Bodie to see a real ghost town from the 1800's that's being maintained as it was left, but not restored, so you get to see it as it was. We were in Lee Vining in late September and all the hotels had "No Vacancy" signs up so be sure to book early. There are a few restaurants in Lee Vining, but be aware that a lot of these places shut down when Tioga Pass closes for the winter. We were there at the end of the season and the Tuolomne Grill and the general store on Tioga Pass closed that weekend, as did the Tioga Pass Resort. By the way, we tried to book at the Tioga Pass Resort back in December, but emails and calls went unanswered. We were told they book two years or more in advance.
So, stay in Lee Vining - it's quiet and convenient and Murphey's is a good place to stay.
