“Good value here”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2012

After checking on-line with various discounters, I phoned direct and was given an even larger discount for a Thursday and Friday stay. Low price for a BW. The good places in Bakersfield were booked up for the annual CIF State wrestling and soccer matches. We were there for the wrestling. This place is not actually in Lebec - but is at the north end of the Grapevine in an unincorporated area of Kern County - at a truck stop. An easy, fast 20 minutes to Bakersfield. Very friendly, helpful staff. Large, clean room. Carpet looked almost new. Excellent WIFI. Large, new flat screen, HD tv. Some noise from the room above us(we were on the ground floor) at 4AM. Sounded like weights were being dropped. Maybe early tune up for the wrestling matches? ;-) No noise the second nite. Very comfortable bed. Usual BW breakfast.

Don't eat at the Wheeler Ridge Iron Skillet Restaurant, which is situated walking distance to the motel. I could not pull up a listing for it here on Trip Advisor, but it is there and we ate there. All male truckers - no women or families eating there. Low quality food. The food servers were friendly and helpful, but the food was poor. We had the $14.95 Prime Rib buffet special. Some of the veggies and salad were OK. A true all male truck stop ambience.

Room Tip: May be wise to take an upstairs room to avoid any possible overhead noise.

My husband and I and two of our three children stayed at the Best Western Liberty Inn in Lebec, California while traveling home to San Diego after visiting our family in Washington. First, we had requested a crib, which was placed at our hotel room door when we checked in. Once we got it into the room and began to set it up we noticed how old, dirty, stained it was. We did not want out 1 year old son sleeping in it; so we did not use it at all. Second, the hotel is very old; we could hear EVERYTHING from other guest rooms - upstairs, next to us, and even across the hall. The walls are definitely not insulated very well at all. Third, we were giving our children a bath the next morning and noticed a couple of dead cock roaches in the corner. I will never stay in the hotel again - shame on Best Western!!! We over paid for this kind of quality and service - $104 plus tax (had same rate for regular rate and military rate)!!! Do not stay at this hotel!!!

We stay here while traveling north after a day in Disneyland. It is right after you come over the Grapevine so it makes for a great stopping point.
Nice room, with the microwave and refrigerator.
Expanded continental breakfast - has the waffle baker option. No hot cocoa though.
The (indoor) pool heater was broken and at first they didn't have a warning sign where you could see it, so was annoyed when I suited up and walked over there, started to get in and found the water to be too cold to swim in. That's why I gave the pool rating a 3. Other than that, staff was pretty nice and it was a very good stay.
Will return next time in the area!

We stayed here at the end of a family trip. We had been driving through a very hot central California all day. This hotel was quiet and comfortable. It had a heated pool (though I didn't need it heated in July) and complementary breakfast. It was near several restaurants.

When I couldn't sleep, a common problem for me, I went to the dining area to read for a while. The night desk person made a pot of coffee for me and later set up the breakfast early so I could have something to eat.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the highway. The hotel is situated to have the maximum number of rooms a d...

Location is perfect as were the facilities and staff. We arrived late in the day after a very stressful trip from San Francisco. Everyone was great!

Room Tip: Call ahead and early!

with many best western motels showing their age, over priced and run by less then caring management this one is a great exception.
newly remodeled, the room was spacious and very clean.
management really made us feel they were glad to have us stay there.
their prices were inline on the moderate side. very comfortable beds and what i especially enjoyed was how quiet it was. i was concerned that being a part of a truck stop environment there would be excessive noise and i am a very light sleeper. i was pleasantly surprised that i was able to get a great night's sleep.

Room Tip: ask for aarp or aaa discount

No complaints. Room was spacious and comfortable, flat screen tv, coffee and microwave, extremely friendly staff. I did not have a reservation. Just got tired driving and pulled off I-5 when I saw a 'lodgings next stop' sign. This happened to be the place. I paid $85

My room was right next to the stairs on the second floor, and yes, I could hear people in the lobby (Celtics/Lakers game was on in the dining room), but not in any way that bothered me. Also: There is an indoor pool and jacuzzi, free wifi, free HBO, free breakfast. (Not the best, but coffee was good and you can make your own waffles)
