“Very small "suites", sleeper sofa barely enough for 1 preteen...but the breakfast was good-”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2012 via mobile

During checkin, only one employee at the front desk. Extremely slow, as this employee was answering phones, handling requests, and trying to check-in a line of new guests.

The "suite" was tiny. The sleeper sofa was barely more than a twin, and yet we had been very clear that 4 guests would be staying in the room. They do not have/allow roll aways. The linens for the sleeper sofa were the same size as the main bed, so they did not fit well. Ended up having to go down to front desk to get extra linens so we could build a "bed" out of chair and sofa pillows for our 4th guest (again, only one employee so no one to bring anything up to a room).

On the positive side, the breakfast was hot. Both the normal and mini waffle makers were a hit. The eggs were cooked well, the sausage was tasty and the hotel offered some very good egg seasoning.-

The staff here is amazingly friendly. You get greeted every time you walk by and the are genuinely nice. Unfortunately their friendliness could not make up for beds that felt like sleeping on concrete. After the second night there I could hardly move, everything hurt. It's now 2 days later and my neck and back are still soar. The room itself was clean and bed bug free. Breakfast in the morning had lots of choices as well.

My focus was on value and location and this property has been an exceptional choice. I needed to be in Lancaster for work and this was a convenient spot. There seem to be a mix of reviews on this property. I have stayed in a number of different rooms and all were clean and acceptable. My experience has been all positive with one exception of a new trainee struggling with a late check-in.
There is plenty to eat nearby but you may need to ask directions or try local places. A few exits away is the mall also.

It's too bad because this is a clean, well-kept hotel, near the sports fields. The old front desk woman refused to let any families check in until just a moment before 3pm (the "official" check-in time). We talked to some of the families - some had arrived at 1:30p and they were made to wait in the lobby. The lobby was full of waiting people when we got there at 2:30p! Then, magically at 5 mins til 3pm, the front desk Nazi started checking in people, which of course created a huge backlog and line of people!!! Had she simply checked in single families when they arrived at staggered hours this would not have occurred. Trust me, everyone was upset!
Worse, the hotel management was quick to defend itself - something about they didn't want the families getting in the way of the maids in the hallways - hmm, that didn't seem to bother management the rest of the days when whole TEAMS of families would arrive at the same time after a game lugging all their equipment in the hallways. (No maids were ever injured during these influxes!) Just seemed like a way to let us know how unwelcome we really were there. Truth is - Lancaster/Palmdale has PLENTY of hotels to accomodate sports teams - we've stayed in plenty over the past 5 years. Not one of them ever treated us like this at check-in.
Kudos to the maids - all good, hard workers! Breakfast staff was also friendly and helpful! Too bad for 1st impressions. (By the way, at check-in, families from 2 other teams asked me to add their names to my review! The hotel knows what teams were there, so, consider it done.)

WJFSH, General Manager at SpringHill Suites Lancaster/Palmdale, responded to this review, September 27, 2011
I am aware of frustrations revolved around our contracts and event weekend check in policies.
This contracted group very clearly stated, along with all other methods of booking rooms, that no early check ins or late check outs would be allowed the weekend that you were here. In order to receive the discounted group rate, this and other terms were on the contract. To call the
front desk clerk a "nazi" is just plain unfair when she was only doing her job. On your part, honoring the contract would have been appreciated. All team organizers shared the contracts and welcome letter prior to signing it and prior to booking any rooms. I am, however, glad that you appreciated the cleanliness of our hotel. Our housekeeping staff is wonderful.

General Manager denied that it came from her sofa sleeper. My 11-year old son has huge bed bug bite welts (confirmed by the pediatrician due to the way in which they bite). He only slept in sofa sleeper. General Manager, Chris, won't even return my calls. She sent off an email to me saying it wasn't her hotel bed or sofa and that she had it tested. That is a lie!!! She had it fumigated right away and then will have a false report. Marriott customer care tried to be a liason and did nothing about it. They said they would investigate. If you could see the graphic pictures of what my son is going through, you would NOT want to put your precious family through this!!! STAY somewhere else. Marriott does not stand behind its name!!!!

As a matter of public record, the health department has stated that this complaint was not
justified. There are absolutely NO bedbugs at this property. This mother hopefully found out
the truth of her son's bites and will take care of him instead of slandering others.

That sums it up. I can hear my next door neighbors talking right now, clear as a bell. But the room is very nice looking and comfortable, the cardio gym with dumbbells is decent. I'd love it here if I weren't wary of the neighbors hearing everything *I* say and do.
