I went with my husband and three month for a night away to celebrate our four year anniversary and had a wonderful time. The food was delicious, the countryside beautiful and the suite luxurious. We loved the fireplace and the jaccuzi bath. It was very romantic. The breakfast delivered to your door in the morning was just wonderful. You don't really need to leave at all!

We were upgraded to our own cabin it was secluded and private. Down side of the room was the bathroom was kinda small and that there were skylights right above the beds so once the sun was up I was up but that was okay, because we woke up to some first class breakfast. The muffins were delicious and the main breakfast was puff pancakes filled with some lemon filling and chicken rosemary sausage and a plate of fresh fruits. Best breakfast ive ate so far. Stay here you won't regret it. Family ran place and they were very nice even gave us some discount for Shasta caverns.

Very quiet and relaxing place. Would only recommend to bring your own CD's and DVD's as selection is limited and older. Very nice people.

The hospitality here is off the charts. Every detail is thought of in advance, so you feel like they were truly preparing just for you. This is the most peaceful place, and it is full of character and charm. It's in a beautiful, wooded setting, yet it's convenient to I-5, Shasta Lake, and many wonderful Northstate attractions. The suites are luxurious and unique. There are even homemade chocolates and soft robes. The gourmet breakfast is one of the highlights. What a way to wake up! A homemade muffin and coffee at 8am, and gourmet breakfast at 9am, which can be brought right to your room or suite. The setup of the inn would also make it an ideal place for a family reunion or an organizational retreat. I highly recommend this unique place to anyone who wants to experience hospitality the way it was meant to be.

I don't write many reviews, and this is a challenging one . . . .
We travel extensively, and really enjoy the B&B experience. Often the highlight of a trip is the place we stay, rather than the destination itself.
With that in mind, as I planned a long weekend getaway in the vicinity of Lake Shasta and Lassen National Park, I found only one luxury B&B with excellent reviews in that area - the O'Brien Mountain Inn. Everything we read was five star, so I booked their best suite for three nights.
Greg and Teresa Ramsey are the innkeepers, and they are the nicest people one could ever hope to meet. Their property is beautiful, in a gorgeous setting amid the pines about 15 miles north of Redding. We had their Upper Suite, a VERY nice accommodation with a host of amenities, including a fireplace, large private deck, wonderful bathroom, great king bed, and more! The suite is very private and included is a fantastic breakfast served at the room every morning. Actually, there are two servings. Early on - about 8 AM - superb coffee and perhaps the best muffins you have ever tasted are delivered to your door. An hour later, guests receive a full breakfast, masterfully prepared.
If this all sounds too good to be true, it is! There is one factor that distracts from the stay. The property is located very close (perhaps no more than 200 feet) to the Union Pacific main railroad line. As we were checking in, a 100-car freight train came by and on the deck it was incredibly loud, as one might imagine. We entered the suite, closed the door, and the sound was muffled considerably. I am a rail fan, so I figured "OK, I can live with that." However, after we went to bed that evening the trains weren't satisfied with just cruising by - some engineers decided that it would be great fun to give a few blasts on the horn. Wow. Even inside that was a wakeup - literally!
I'm being a bit kind regarding the trains. If one did not know they were coming, it would sound as if the locomotive was coming right through the inn. We decided to make a joke about it, and use them as an alarm clock to get up and use the bathroom . . . .
The funny thing is that we never noticed other reviews mentioning the trains - our reason for a rating of 4 stars instead of five.
Other than the trains and a small faux pas with housekeeping, which was corrected immediately with profuse and sincere apology, we found the O'Brien Mountain Inn to be a wonderful place to stay while in the area. Greg and Teresa's dinner recommendations were right on (don't miss Rivers Restaurant in Redding!). The location is fine - nothing in the immediate area, but an easy shot to Redding, and only an hour to Lassen National Park. Go North for less than an hour to get to Mount Shasta. The Lake Shasta Caverns are very close by, as well.
In comparison to other really outstanding inns we have patronized, it is a bit overpriced, but if you want to stay in a luxury inn in that area, you may have no other choice. Value-wise, we would rate it as a very nice $225-$250 suite that will cost you $300 a night. There are no special discounts. Take into consideration the breakfast you will receive and the gracious innkeepers. We have never had better!

If you are looking for peace and quiet in a tranquil setting, you will enjoy staying here. No TV and no newspaper. However there are movies, music, gardens and hiking close by at Shasta Lake. WI-FI avaiable if you must communicate with the outside world. Tarresa and Greg make great hosts and inn keepers.
