“Awful Nights Sleep”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2013

My girlfriend and I stayed here before and had a pleasant experience. We thought we had found a beautiful mountain retreat that we could return to. However, management has changed our minds. Recently, we spent the night and found the bed to be bowed with the highest point in the center. We tossed and turned all night. Also, the heater in the room would not shut off. I had to open the balcony doors while it was snowing outside. Then, at 8:45am, a housekeeper tries to come in the room while were trying to get some sleep before heading out to ski.

We brought all of this to the attention of the guest service agent; a kid who tried to waive a few minor incidentals. Ughhh! If you can't offer a decent night sleep, why exactly are your rates so high? Ofcourse, the manager was too busy with the installation of new carpet in her office to step outside and address a management related problem. Oh yes, she did see us and then turned back into her office. Horrible management. Blonde hair lady!!! We asked the manager to call us since she was so busy at the time. She never did. Thus, prompting me to write my first bad review ever!

This place is not in need of a major renovation. It just needs better management. Next time I'll rent a cabin and save some money.

Oh Reid, your awesome! I wish you would have been around to help us.

“Worst hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

My family and I decided to stay at this hotel at Christmas. We thought it would be the best hotel.

It seems a good hotel, I can't complain about the facilities. A good spa and gym.

It all started when we went to our room. Our heater wasn't working. The room was about 10°C (50°F) then we called the maintenance. The guy fixed, but we didn't sleep well.

We went to big bear lake, when my family and I came back to the hotel, the room was about 40° C (100°F). Then I called the maintenance again, the guy really tried to fix it. I can't complain about the maintenance guy, because he tried hard and explained to me that It would be or too cold or too hot. Then I asked to go with me to the front desk.

The receptionist didn't care about my problem, I saw him writing down a room available but he said he didn't have one, I guess He was waiting for the President. I had a bad night at that room at Christmas.

About the restaurant.
The regular food is not that bad, but It's overpriced for what It should be. If you think It's going to be worth the hotel because of the food, don't go there.

You should eat just at the small coffee shop at the hotel.

Oh, and I just remember something, the closet is in the bathroom. That's another thing that is really weird.

When I was traveling I stayed at a 2 star hotel that was 10 times better than this one. Not always fancy means good.

“Abusive Housekeeping Staff Cursing in the Hallway”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2013

Christmas Day of 2012, I stayed at the Lake Arrowhead Resort & Spa. I felt like I was at the Motel 6 in Tijuana. The Bellmen were great at helping me get to my room, but one of the housekeeping staff "Keith" was throwing sheets and towels in the hallway from all the rooms on the floor, all the while he was talking to himself. The hallway looked like a war zone, then he proceeded to curse on his radio for someone else to pick up the mess he made. It made me uncomfortable hearing the obscenities that man was saying to his coworkers.

Later that day, I needed a new coffee maker, and a nice housekeeping gentleman brought it promptly, but while he was setting it up in my room, I heard over his radio a man cursing, and yelling about needing sheets to be delivered to another room. The housekeeping gentleman apologized for the cursing over the radio, and made sure we were well taken care of thereafter.

Also while I was there, I went to the front desk to find out how long the hallway was going to be a mess and if I could get extra towels, and the girl at the front desk (Nicole) was very short tempered, and insisted that everything was okay, and that things were business as usual.

I've been staying at the Lake Arrowhead Resort & Spa for over a decade, and I see changes I don't like, especially regarding housekeeping staff abusing their coworkers and making a huge mess in the hallway. I'd rather stay at the Saddleback Inn for now on.

Simple solution is to replace the abusive housekeeping staff with professionals that are service oriented, and know how to make the hallways look better than a war zone M.A.S.H.

“Poor customer service kept me from reserving a room”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013

I just got off the phone the second time with the Lake Arrowhead Resort. My intent is not to throw bad reviews around for very little reason but with the goal of taking the family to the snow this season and attempting to stay at a nice place that doesn't force me to look at that awful wood paneling that seems to be in every cabin in Big Bear and Lake Arrowhead, I decided to call the Lake Arrowhead Resort.

My only question to them was if they had snow and would it last through March. The first time I asked this to Wes, who answered the phone, he quickly said, "One moment sir." after hesitating and he kept me on hold until my next birthday. I hung up and re-dialed, a different gentleman answered the phone and I restated my question. Funny thing, both men treated my question like I asked if they were growing corn in their lobby...or some outrageous question otherwise. He asked me..."So what is it you'd like to know, sir?"

I figured my question was pretty straight forward so I embellished on it a bit. I mentioned that I wanted to bring the family up and play in the snow. He said that there's a place 14 miles away where we could.....record scratch.....whu? 14 miles away? We can't wander around the property and goof around in the snow?

A very speedy "thank you" was said and I hung up...that just didn't go well at all and I'm still wondering what place I called.

Despite the fact I had to fill out that I did visit this place, I did not (wish Travel Advisor would allow us to not select those areas that are not pertinent)....and will not.

“Mountain gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

Great lounge and bar with cozy fireside hangouts. Very cute restaurant with great lakeside views. Love this mountain hideaway for a quick break. Lakeview rooms are a must and ask for the quieter side of the hotel if you want some r&r. We loved the fresh air, walks by the lake and old time boat ride on the River Queen - you'll get to see some of the amazing properties on the lake.
