“Perfect Beach Escape!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2014

I have stayed at Surf and Sand three times and each visit is better than the last. Aside from having a perfect location with breathtaking views, the accommodations, staff, spa and food are all amazing. Their employees are genuinely warm and friendly. Whatever we needed, they were always there to assist us with a smile. We ordered room service and ate in the restaurant, and each experience was perfect. We live in LA and will definitely return to Surf and Sand as soon as possible for a weekend getaway!

Believe it or not, all the reviews are accurate...

The good, since it am an optimist. We made reservations for New Years Eve for our family (my husband and I plus 2 teenagers) at the last minute. Hats off to whomever I spoke with on the phone. She was so incredibly knowledgeable and helpful! It was a long complicated call because of what we were looking for, and the customer service was outstanding!!

The hotel has had some major renovations. From the curbside, it almost looks like a nice motel. When we pulled up to the valet only parking (beachside, no parking to ever be found anywhere, ever!), they were nice without being pretentious. The indoor lobby is tiny but lovely. The outdoor lobby is truly lovely...many small sitting areas with many small fireplaces...drink service too. Very well done!

The interior corridors are a combo of a nice resort and a nice seaside motel...in places, carpet, in places stone flooring.

Our room was on the 6th floor of the tower, on top of the surf. The room was huge for a standard room...500sf, with a nice size closet too. Room was very well done, wish the balcony was a bit bigger, but still allowed for all four of us on the balcony together.

As some other reviews have complained (?) about, this hotel is on the surf, not just on the beach. If your room is on top of the surf, you will hear nature in all of her glory...the roar of the surf drowns out all other noises, which lulled all of us to sleep. But, if you think it will bother you, make sure to ask for another location for your room.

The hotel has a pool with free covered cabanas and lounge chairs. Some cabanas face the ocean, some face the pool.

One level below the pool is a semi private beach, which locals can access too. The beach and the pool share a bathroom, and the bathrooms are superb for pool/beach location. The beach is very clean and well maintained. There is an attendant to pitch umbrellas and set out small high quality beach chairs for you. Lunch and cocktails are also available beachside and poolside.

If you like fine dining, the restaurant Splashes will make every foodie want to stay a bit longer. I highly recommend the Brussels sprouts...a local favorite!

If you are looking for a mega beach resort, this isn't the place, but if you are looking for upscale authentic Laguna Beach beachfront hotel, you will love it here. We sure did!

Room Tip: Make sure you know how close to the surf the room is and if you can sleep with the roar. If not, ot...

The rating for this hotel needs to be downgraded. The hotel restaurants do not reserve seating for their hotel guests. We have been denied twice a table because the local (Laguna Beach etc.) reserve the tables. So, don't expect to eat at the hotel's restaurants. Also, the check in time needs to be moved to 7pm from the so called 4pm slot. The hotel has most of all the guests checking in wait until late evening hours for a room. Our reservations were made 3 months
in advance.

The only bad thing about this place is that we have to leave in a few hours! I'm so thankful that I found this spectacular resort on tripadvisor. I'm a hero to my family of six (with four teenagers.). As we stepped out of our rental car, we all knew that we were in for a treat when we noticed the comfortable outdoor seating around glass firepits nestled in front of glass railings overlooking the pounding pacific surf! When we opened the doors to the Upper Catalina suite that we rented, we were amazed to find a glass terrace with comfortable outdoor seating that we could enjoy privately. We spent most of our time out there and will never forget how relaxing the sound of the surf was. At night, we left the doors open so the surf could lull us to sleep. Our teenagers shared a room on the first floor of the tower building. Their room was very nice and had it's own balcony perched right over the ocean. At night, the sound of the surf was so loud in their room that it sometimes woke them up - but they did not want to close the doors and block out the sound. This was an amazing experience for all of us and we will forever treasure the memories. The staff went out of their way to make us feel at home. The amenities were five star. Look no further and book here. You will not regret it!

Our family returned to the Surf & Sand again this year after we had the time of our lives last year.

The weather was IDEAL and the resort didn't let us down...in fact it exceeded our expectations that we had from our trip last year.

We returned to see many of the familiar faces from last year....the same pleasant people at the valet, bell desk, front desk and concierge. Even the General Manager of the property, Joanna Bear, remembered us when we ran into her for our morning coffee. The people that work at the Surf & Sand define the word: hospitality.

I could tell that the property had made some changes from last year with upgrades in the rooms and around the property. The Surf & Sand seems to constantly be reinvesting money into making it better for the guest experience every visit.

If you are looking for a first-class destination with first-class amenities and treatment, I highly recommend the Surf & Sand.

Room Tip: It is my understanding that every room is an ocean-front room. If you look at the hotel from the bea...

We had the pleasure of enjoying a two day stay at your lovely resort and enjoyed every moment of it The rooms are beautiful and very comfortable just loved hearing the crashing of the waves. The staff were very friendly and most helpful.

Room Tip: If one likes quiet when Sleeping choose a room further away from the sea

I had a chance to stay the night in one of these rooms after a holiday party and, holy cow, it was incredible. A valet took care of my car for me and the front desk staff was very welcoming. The resort is right off a main road, but once you're inside the gate, it feels like you are completely secluded. The big WOW was when I opened my room door and saw my view of the Pacific. The room was amazing, don't get me wrong, but that view trumps everything else. If it wasn't such a chilly night, I practically would have fallen asleep on my balcony! Comfy bed, sweet decor, awesome shower and stellar view. At night, you get put to sleep by the sounds of the waves. My room service breakfast was a little pricey, but waking up to eggs, toast and sausage with that view was 100% worth it. Even if just once, you HAVE to stay here and see for yourself. Can't wait until I have an excuse to go again!

Room Tip: Tip: I stayed in a tower room on the 3rd floor, and the view was amazing.
