Prior to making our reservation, I inquired as to why the pricing for this hotel was so inexpensive. Katherine informed me that the property was "old" and the low pricing helped them stay full. I can handle an old property, so my next question to her was whether or not the rooms were clean. She assured me that cleanliness was their priority and that she had a really great cleaning staff. I can not tell you for certain if anything had been cleaned. I know that room 30 is in desperate need of a deep, detailed cleaning and that there is a substantial amount of mold on the bathroom ceiling. This place needs more than a "maintenance man." It needs professional improvements to make it hospital. The "ocean view" would be lovely if there were not power lines running the entire expanse of it. There is no balcony at all, only an open second level walkway shared by all "ocean view" rooms on the second floor. There is no phone, no alarm, no hair dryer, not even an extra roll of toilet paper - we had to run across PCH to buy some when we figured this out before the front office was open that morning. Additionally, there is no ice machine or vending machine of any kind and the proximity to any eateries, aside from Chinese, is atleast 6 blocks south. Should you desire to take the trolley south, you should know it doesn't run south down PCH - only North. It travels north to Cliff where it turns west to offer passengers heading south a lovely ocean view. So, if you're starving after spending a long day at Crescent Bay, be prepared for either 1) the trolley's scenic route to get to any of the delicious eateries near Main Beach 2) a significant walk to Gina's Pizza and Pastaria - which is excellent. We had the displeasure of staying here for a single night, after we spontaneously decided on a last minute trip to the beach and couldn't find lodging at our usual hotel or any of the other nearby hotels and this place is just another example that: 1) You get what you pay for. and 2) If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
PS - My 8 year old would like to add that she can't think of anything she liked about the hotel.
