“We stayed for three, very pleasant nights”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

We've been staying at the Laguna Riviera for years and always have a pleasant stay. Their prices have been creeping up, but are realistic for the area. They offer wonderful beach front access, a variety of room styles from little apartments with full kitchens to rooms with a King bed & fridge only. They have a nice inside, heated pool - good any time of the year. They really do need to fix the ping pong table in the game room, though. We'll go again.

Room Tip: All rooms are unique in their set-up, some with ocean views & some with side views. It just depe...

Thank you for the review and your repeat business. Loyal happy customers let us know were delivering a great vacation experience.

Yes, we have been forced to raise rates on/off for the last several years but alway stay below the other ocean front properties. Fortunately rates are remaining the same for 2014 and instead of starting Summer rates June 1 like everyone else in town, we are waiting until the middle of the month. It is also important to consider total cost since we do not charge for many thing that are add ons elsewhere in town. This includes domestic phone calls, internet access, beach chairs and umbrellas, parking, and of course we have no resort fees that go as high as $40 per day and you receive a complimentary continental breakfast every day.

We just installed a brand mew foosball table and air hockey. It sounds like the ping pong table needs to be next. Thanks for the feedback we will be taking a look at that.

Thank you again and we look forward to your next stay with us.

Happy travels,

My Wife and I have stayed here many times...Birthday's, Anniversary's, weekend "Get-A-Way's", P.O.M. every August and have really enjoyed our visits. This past weekend we reserved Rm. 408 and we were really looking forward to utilizing the Patio to enjoy the Ocean View. This trip we had the "Misfortune" of being in the Room next to a Room that was utilizing the Hotel for a "Bachelorette" Party...for a while we enjoyed the festivities but after a couple hours we were ready for it to stop. I went to the Front Desk and spoke to "Bryndon" about the situation and he was Great. He upgraded us to Rm. 304...didn't charge us extra and the Girls were able to continue their Party. Thanks again Laguna Riviera ! We look forward to our next visit and by the way...we really like the completed walkway to the Beach...Great Job !

Thank you for your repeat business. We are honored you trust your vacation experience to the Laguna Riviera. I'm glad we had the availability so Bryndon could upgrade you to a non-bachelorette party area.... 304's private balcony has a great ocean view and is a wonderful location to enjoy that first cup of coffee in the morning.

Your comment about the new walkway is appreciated. It was a long process from start to finish but now that it is complete we are all looking forward to seeing the newly planted landscaping take hold and I'm sure be even more stunning this time next year.

Thanks again and we look forward to seeing you again next year.

We arrived for our annual, summer trip to the beautiful Laguna Riviera with tremendous excitement to see the new patio with the stunning views of the surf and ocean. The new patio now has metal bars where once there were glass panes. With the metal bars in place, the view has been somewhat diminished. In prior years, in the early mornings,I would sit inside with my coffee and stare out to the ocean. Now, the view is partially obstructed, although I can still hear the sound of the crashing waves.

Service remains tremendous; cleanliness, value and location are tops. Thank you Laguna Riviera for another splendid trip.

Patio Pros: No more splinters from the wooden deck; beautiful, new lounge chairs

Cons: awkward view of the ocean, staircase placed in the middle of the patio, shade tree has been removed so the anteroom of the apartment becomes quite hot in the afternoons.

Welcome back for another year and thank you for the review.

We are so glad to hear you had a wonderful time and enjoyed the property and town. The new patios at 101 were a result of city requirements as we rebuilt the slope. What I do like is it opens the view from inside the room since it is now a terraced space. Architecturally it aligns with the railing systems used throughout the property. In place of the wood used in prior years we upgraded to far superior aluminum. It does slightly obscure the view but the trade off is it allows the breeze to pass through making for a much more comfortable space in the summer. I actually have a guest who used to call the old glass enclosed deck a solar oven because he could only spend a short time on it before going to the pathway to cool off.

Like you, we all miss the tree and tried to relocate it during construction but, unfortunately it did not survive. We have planted the areas on the north and south sides of the patios and when complete the patios will be far more private and hidden behind the greenery and out of view from the pathway and adjacent house. We believe this will make for a very cozy and beautiful space.

Thanks again and we look forward to your next stay with us.

We stayed here for 3 nites. I had also found this place from trip advisor and we couldn't have been happier. Wonderful beachfront access, within walking distance to many shops and restaurants, and they provided beach toys and rentals for beach chairs and boogie boards. We had free parking and free breakfast all for a very reasonable price. They also provided us with a very reasonable and much appreciated late checkout on our last day since we didn't fly out till 630PM. THANK YOU!!! The only drawback that we experienced was our room 512 and 412 to some degree at the end of the day when it had reached 86 degrees outside the room 512 was 91 and 412 was 85, and neither room had a/c. So it took awhile for them to cool off to be able to sleep. Overall, we would stay there again :)

Thank you for the fine review. It is great to know you had a memorable vacation and enjoyed the location, beach, all of our amenities. While we cannot alway provide late check out, we are happy to do so when ever it is possible. Even if it is not, you are welcome to have us store your luggage so you can go enjoy the beach and town, making the most of your vacation, until it is time to return to the airport.

As we enter the summer it can get a bit warm but in most cases open windows remedy the situation as you enjoy the cooling ocean breeze. Many rooms do have A/C and they are listed in our online room descriptions. We would love to have A/C in all rooms and will as soon as we can get upgraded power lines from the Edison Company. For the time being, we have several portable A/C units available upon request.

Next time you stay please feel free to request a portable A/C unit and our staff will be happy to bring one to your room. The average year round high in Laguna Beach is 73f and the average low is 52f with the peak in Aug/Sept averaging 80f high and a 60f low so it is generally pretty comfortable. I live just up the street and, like many locals, do not have central a/c but on occasion, like you, would appreciate it during the mid day highs.

We appreciate you patronage and I look forward to your next stay with us.

All the best &
Happy travels,

Best location! Best atmosphere! Everything was in walking distance (Ralph’s, Starbucks, Restaurants, and beaches). This little hidden gem is hands down one of the best vacation spots in Laguna Beach with free parking, free breakfast and beach access. This is an older property that that has been recently updated with modern finishes. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I will definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: Free parking

I came across the Laguna Riviera online looking for a last minute weekend trip for my birthday. My husband I wanted to be right next to the ocean/beach and this place was AWESOME!! We booked room 510 with a partial ocean view and it was amazing!

What I liked:
- The VIEW! Even though we weren't looking right at the ocean, a great view was just steps outside our door.
- The price! You can't beat it!!
- The room. It was a great size with a mini fridge, microwave and a balcony! It didn't feel cramped at all and have lots of windows to open up and let the fresh breeze in.
- Hotel attendant, he was super nice and made us feel comfortable!

What I didn't like
I only have one complaint, and it's super silly...I didn't like the comforter/duvet. The material felt too rough.

Overall, if you're on a budget and want to be on the beach this is the place!! I will most definitely be back!

Room Tip: If you cant afford the ocean view, partial is just as good :) Room 510 is awesome!

Thank you for sharing your experience while vacationing at the Laguna Riviera. Relaxing and value is what its all about and Im glad enjoyed your stay.

We strive to provide the best value on the beach in Laguna which is why we keep it simple and include parking, continental breakfast, high speed internet, beach chairs, towels and umbrellas and beach toys for the kids. Add to that there is no surprise resort fee or charge for calls within the continental US and you have a very predictable and reasonable bill.

Thanks again and we look forward to your next stay with us.

Happy travels,

I’m writing this review having spent two nights at the Riviera with a third to go before I check out. I have Room 407, which is not the greatest position but that’s my own fault as I left my booking very late, which eliminated any choice. Having said that, the room itself is plenty large enough, especially when compared to some of the local motel-type accommodation in Laguna Beach. The room is well appointed and has all the basic equipment, including a microwave, fridge and coffee-maker. No electric kettle but that’s pretty standard even in the most expensive American hotels. Americans don’t drink tea. Only coffee!
I found the room decor borderline dingy and it’s all to do with the dark and somewhat depressing choice of colours, fabrics and finishes. Dark wood stained furniture combined with dark brown velvet fabric on the two-seater settee are in total contrast to the exterior of the building, which exudes a fun retro-style sun, sea and sand theme with hand-painted wall murals and sky-blue and white paintwork. First impressions of the room are that it’s in need of a makeover but actually nothing is worn out or particularly run down. It just looks terribly old fashioned and the decor doesn’t hang together as a theme. Curtains, bedspread and carpet don’t go together. Nice bathroom. Good sized shower cubicle and gallons of hot water. If it had simple white tiles and chrome taps it would look more modern.
The wireless internet is unreliable in the room, which I found annoying as I needed to do some work each day and I ended up sitting in Reception to get a reliable enet reception. Help was always available from the staff and a buffet breakfast provided each day in the small reception bar area. But that’s as far as the food offer goes. Anything else and you will have to order in, or use the local restaurants of which there’s a huge choice across a range of prices.

Room Tip: Go for higher floors and ask for a room at the rear.

Thank you for your review. As we enter the Summer Season it is necessary to book early to get a premium view or room. Your room unit 407 has a small view of the ocean, and while not one of our larger rooms is over 325 sqf which is larger than an average hotel room, and this does not include the outdoor seating area. From personal experience traveling to your home town of London and staying in several hotels and high end properties, I know 407 would be thought of as more spacious than average.

Room 407 was completely remodeled in 2009. While Im sorry the decor is not to your taste I am glad you saw it to be in good shape and not worn. Many have complimented us on the new decor and the work of the designer who put it all together and I am sorry that is was not to your taste but glad you were comfortable.

While we do not stock the rooms with tea or tea pots we are happy to provide them upon request and tea is always available in the lobby during all hours we are open at no charge.

It is unfortunate that the internet disrupted your stay. We were having issues with the service provider and as of yesterday they have successfully restored full coverage and bandwidth for all of our guests. We provide internet access at no charge and like our gusts find it frustrating when its not operating at 100%.

We hope you chose to stay with us on your next visit to Laguna Beach and if you can book early recommend room 508. It has arguably the best view on the property, a private surf view deck and was remodeled this year.

Happy travel,
