If you're looking for a clean, basic, friendly, economical place to stay in Laguna this is it!
We usually stay here when we come to Laguna.
We're the type who have felt at home in fancy places like the Montage (Laguna Beach) and the Taj Lake Palace (Udaiper, India) as well as modest means like a sleeping bag on the ground next to a dirt road (Cinque Terre, Italy) or a 10 hour cramped bus ride (that broke down) in Cambodia.
The point is, we're not fussy travelers. We can go with the flow and have a good time wherever we are or whatever the budget may be.
The Eco Inn is steps from the beach and some rooms have an ocean view. Yes, there is a row of private homes between you and the ocean but the rooms are on the second floor looking OVER the homes. I can't believe those who complain about the houses. If the ocean was right outside the windows, the rooms would cost a fortune. We have always enjoyed our stays here.
A company bought the hotel in the summer of 2012 so they were going through an extensive renovation during our most recent visit (early October).
Therefore, any complaints people may have had about the place being old and out dated (which was sort of the charm of the place and the reason for the low price point) should be moot. Because of this, I assume the prices will go up a bit, but I'm sure it will be a better bargain than many of the surrounding hotels.
The pool was being filled in and we were told it was being replaced by a fire pit. It didn't seem like many people used the pool anyways.
The old management will be missed (Tino was super friendly) but the new staff were just as friendly.
We're going back this weekend and look forward to seeing the new changes!
