“Nice hotel but call and ask about renovations”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 days ago NEW

We attended a workshop in Laguna Beach. We were so excited about the idea of having beautiful ocean views. Well, didn't quite work out that way. The hotel is going through renovations: the pool is closed, the hot tub closed, most of the third floor closed. Our room was in a dark corner with no views of anything. However, because it was in the corner, it was very large with a sloped ceiling - nice. However, the management was very nice. Location is fantastic (block from beach, couple blocks from the main beach and center of Laguna Beach). One they finish remodeling, ask for 3rd floor, balcony rooms facing south. Those are the great rooms. And don't get to excited about the "breakfast" in the morning: it was just croissants. The WiFi was extremely slow. Work paid for it, so I'm not sure what the cost was; but unless it's pretty inexpensive, I would say keep looking; not because it was bad, but because there are so many cute places right around there with fantastic views.

Room Tip: Third floor, balcony facing south.

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary by taking a mini vacation with one night at the Laguna Cliffs Inn. The hotel is easy to find (right off Coast Highway) and there was plenty of parking (I think it's $10/night, but they didn't charge us!) The staff was very helpful and friendly, and quick to give us some recommendations for dinner and activities. The rooms were large (we opted for an ocean view room) and very nice (GREAT bed, plenty of space in the room, crazy great mini-bar!) There is a beautiful path along the ocean right behind the hotel that you can take right into the little downtown area (about a 7 minute walk). The coffee and pastries in the morning were okay, we ended up making a trip to a local coffee shop instead.

Room Tip: For the extra $20, it's worth going with an ocean view room with the balcony

This is an upgraded U-shaped motel built on top of its parking lot, so people walk in front of your window and you can even see your car down from the walkway. Some rooms, close to the extremely busy highway, are not so quiet. Ask for a room with balcony (private balconies face the sides of the buildings. Furniture is new and a bit too big for the room, clean carpet. The bathtub needed to be replaced, though. 1st floor rooms have 1 or 2 queen bed, 2nd floor - only kings. The most unpleasant thing is the heavy mold smell. The beds are of the highest quality. Excellent sleep experience, if you can breathe in the moldy atmosphere. Bad suprise : 12 $ parking fee/ day on the bill - nobody mentions it when you check in. Young staff, educated, friendly. Too bad they were not upfront about the parking fee.

Room and reservation selection on the website was efficient. Unlike other hotels whose reality is a contrast to the website descriptions and photos. The Laguna Cliffs Inn was not boastful. The room was clean and ready for an early check-in. The hilltop views of the Pacific Ocean were delightful. The oceanfront walk and park one block west were accessible and popular with locals and visitors.Covered parking was adequate. The front desk staff were most helpful providing a printed holiday restaurant schedule with hours and contact numbers.. All of the recommended restaurants, Lumberyard, C'est la Vie and Alessa were culinary winners in our opinion. The negatives were minor: a poor quality picture of the TV and a loud heater/AC unit. Considering the options in Laguna beach, one could seemingly do worse.

Room Tip: Upstairs room in the 200's will have good sun exposure. Higher numbers are quieter due to dista...

Dear Dabney H:

Thank you for letting us know our team is doing a great job by making the grade. Of course I really wished we could have wowed you further to receive that fifth bubble!
Laguna Beach is home to over 90 amazing restaurants so making recommendations comes so easily. All we really need to know is what you are craving so that we may guide you in the right direction.

I would also like to touch base on some of your concerns. Please know that we are aware that our television reception is not the best. We hope to add HD channels to our lineup in the near future which will rectify the poor quality picture. As for our A/C units, at this time we do not have any plans to replace them. Of course we are thankful for the units during our warm summer days.

Warm Regards,
Rachel

The OC area is the BEST weather in the world, so my decision to stay in Laguna just made sense.
Katie at the front desk made my stay even better!! You cannot go wrong with your stay at Laguna Cliffs Inn!!!

Room Tip: Choose a room (if possible) closer the ocean area than the PCH area....

The best part of our stay at Laguna Cliffs Inn was the helpful staff. Zack did an excellent job of helping me on the phone with room selection. All personnel at the front desk did whatever they could to make our stay nice. We appreciated the little touches, like coffee and croissants, wine in the evening, little treats in the room.
The hotel itself is not one of the premier ocean view properties. If you are looking for ocean view rooms, there are better choices along the waterfront, but Laguna Cliffs Inn is well located with lots of great things within walking distance.

Dear Voyageurdumond:

I was pleased to read your review and hear that Zach and the rest of our team provided you excellent service. One of the many great things about our property is that our intimate setting allows us to build a great rapport with our guests.

You were also correct in mentioning that we are not in a premier ocean location. You will find that we are in short distance to main downtown area and beaches. I have become a huge fan of Picnic Beach since it is in short walking distance.

Voyageurdumond, I would like to thank you for taking the time to share your views about our property. We hope to see you at our beach house in the future.

Regards,
Rachel

The location can't be beat, walk to the beaches and downtown Laguna. However, they charge for parking and the "free" breakfast is only a croissant and coffee. The beds are very good, but the rooms are tired along with the baths. It is a updated motel with a pretentious lobby and old, somewhat updated rooms. Not enough bed stands and lamps for reading in bed. The pool is small and the hot tub is adequate.

Room Tip: Get a top floor room on the west side if you want a view.
