“Stay elsewhere!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2011

I was very dissappointed. We come to Laguna on average 3 times a year. The last several years we have stayed at the Holiday Inn. We decided to try a new place this time. We check in and notice a rusty tub and a smell in the room. Not wanting to start out on the wrong foot, we open both doors to air out the room and blow off the tub which just feels dirty. We did not get our snack basket Thursday or Friday and had to ask for them both days. Was told by the front desk that they are delivered at 3:00p.m. I said my wife and son were in the room all afternoon. Same thing happened the next day. As an aside, we didn't eat much out of our first "complimentary" breakfast basket and were surprised to see everything taken away the next morning by the maid. The basket consisted of a few pre-packaged items. The same thing happened the next day. Why don't they leave the few things they give you? The next a.m. we were awoken at 4:00a.m. as someone had set the alarm clock and apparently no one checked before we occupied the room. The last thing which put me over the edge was when I made coffee and it overflowed everywhere on Saturday a.m. as the coffee pot is too short for the maker. I took the pot downstairs and the receptionist said that you all were aware of the coffeee maker issue and that it should have been changed out. She was unaware of the bathtub being rusted. She said that the maids are supposed to make sure the alarm clocks are turned off but that doesn't always happen. (obviously) All this being said, for the rates they charge, to have this many problems and to stay in an older and foul smelling room...stay somewhere else.

We chose this hotel for the location and that is a quite small hotel.
This hotel is placed just 5-10 minutes walk from all the good restaurants and shops of Laguna Beach. Of course this means that it is close to the beach as well.
The rooms are nice and kept clean every day. The rooms has TV, fridge and every day you get a fresh basket of fruit, bars and muffins. The only problem with the rooms are at least for the rooms on ground level, that the view from the balcony is not very nice. However in stead of using the balcony we used the small porch in front of the room, this was at least as good. As seen on the pictures the pool is small, and is perfect for chill off and for kids. The hotel also offers towels at the pool for free.
As written by most reviewers, the staff is very nice and always very helpful and proactive. This is very much appreciated even though we did not use it very much.
Parking is free on the hotel, which is treasure in Laguna beach.
Finally, taking the number of stars in to consideration, you get really good quality for the money. And if we pass Laguna beach again, we would not hesitate to stay there again.

My wife and I stayed here for our anniversary this weekend....along with our five kids. They were very accommodating before we arrived by helping us select the best room for such a big family.

The hotel is also in a really great location. It's not right on the cliffs, but the ocean is visible from most spots around the hotel and it was a very pleasant walk to the beach and restaurants downtown. We'd definitely come back.

The location is great. The staff was helpful and friendly. Free parking and internet were great at a location so close to everything. We didn't use our car at all the whole time we were there. They had beach chairs available which was helpful, and provided fresh fruit and snacks everyday. The bed headboard needed dusting, but that was it as far as any complaints. We will definitely return.

Felt pricey for what we got, but it is summer on the coast and the hotel is very conveniently located to downtown Laguna Beach. The folks in the motel office were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and quiet and the beds comfortable. The pool is a bit of a joke - very small and not very appealing, but there were guests who took advantage of it. We would stay here again if we could get a special rate.

Room was decent size, clean, and nicely maintained; although a bit dark. Window is small, decor is dark, and lights are all very low wattage - not an issue for us for one night, but it could bother some. More annoying was the "environmentalist" approach to showers - warm, but not hot. Gift basket is a nice, if not terribly significant touch. Unfortunately ours was not in the room when we checked in at 3:30 p.m. Getting out of the shower to answer the door and receive it kind of devalues it.

Pool and spa are clean, although very, very tiny. Spa was decently hot, but no pressure from the jets. Sauna was not working - so sorry, tough luck for guests. Good channels on the t.v., but lots of static/distortion in the picure from poor connection or something.

The building is a three-sided square with all of the rooms and windows facing the pool and spa in the center courtyard. When the families are in the pool, your room is not terribly quiet. The hotel is very close to Heisler park, but most people are still going to have to drive or trek a bit if they want to spend the day at the beach. Pool pumps, a/c units, PCH noise, etc. completely prevent you from hearing the ocean at the hotel. The neighbors' a/c units are the only thing you will hear at night with the window open. Free parking is nice, depending on the base rate of course. . . . Some "side-wing" rooms have rear balconies for smokers, but I felt safer smoking in the garage with the unsavory characters that were lingering in the neighboring back parking lot that ours overlooked.

The "skyline/ocean" views as represented by the hotel are a bit of a stretch. Rooms on the two side wings of the building only have partial views when standing or sitting right next to the window and looking out at extreme angles. Views from the other rooms are better, except that a very significant set of power lines runs what looks like ten feet from the edge of the property line on the ocean-side of the lot. Also, only the second-floor rooms sit above the buildings that lie between this hotel and Heisler park. I could be wrong about the distance to the power lines, but I sure would have been nervous bringing a fishing rod up the exterior stairs and walkway to our room. The ocean view pictures posted by this hotel on various booking sites look to me like they were taken from a ladder or with the carmera high overhead or even from the roof of the hotel. While you can just see the tops of the power lines when looking carefully in these pictures, they do not represent the views that you will have as a guest in my opinion.

We paid a base rate of just over $150 for a top-floor room, 3 rooms from the end on the northern "side-wing" of the hotel the third Sunday in June. At that rate, we might stay here again in the future when we are just looking for a clean room with a warm (but not hot) shower and comfortable bed that is close to downtown Laguna Beach and Heisler park. We would not stay expecting views, smells, or sounds of the ocean. Nor would we stay on the basis of any of the hotels' purported amenities - too hit and miss. When they start asking $250 and up for this room, that's probably too much for our tastes based on what we got during our first stay.

Excellent little hotel. Best customer service I have ever had. The rooms are clean and the beds incredibly comfortable. It is located literally a hundred steps from the most beautiful park on the beach. I will stay here again.
