“Very Nice Accommodations with Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

We vacationed in Laguna Beach to enjoy the Pageant of the Masters and everything else Laguna Beach has to offer during July and August. The Carriage House Inn is a very cute inn located only 2 short blocks away from Coast Hwy enabling a quick walk to the beach and restaurants near the inn. The inn is also close to the trolley that will take you to Main Beach, restaurants, shops, and galleries. It is so nice to park the car and not have to drive. Breakfasts were yummy and filling including the fresh baked pastry or breakfast bread and house-made granola served each morning. Lesley and Andy are warm and gracious hosts, and we thoroughly enjoyed their company and the company of the “Master of the House”, Finnegan (their very friendly Labradoodle). Thank you for the use of the beach towels, chairs, and boogie boards as well as binoculars for the Pageant and fan for the room as it was unusually hot while we were there. The rooms are very nice and most include a full kitchen. Our only comment is that the bed in the room we reserved was quite hard (a pillowtop mattress would have made all the difference). Overall we felt the Carriage House Inn was a very good value compared to other accommodations in the area (which can get quite expensive). We will definitely stay at the Carriage House Inn the next time we are in Laguna Beach….only hopefully for a longer stay.

We stayed in Laguna Beach for two nights after nearly two weeks of travelling across California with the idea of it being a relaxing stop and indeed it was. The town itself is lovely with good beaches and it was exactly what we were looking for. The Carriage House is ian older style property full of character and ideally situated in a quiet residential location set back a couple of streets from the beach. It is only a 15-20 minute walk to the centre of the town itself but on the way you pass a lot of shops and restaurants which is part of the pleasure of staying here. The English born hosts Andy and Lesley are very welcoming. We had a two bedroom apartment with a living room and well equipped kitchen which was great and ideal if you are on a budget or have fussy children. Breakfast was continental style with pastries, fruit salad, juice, tea and coffee and delicious fruit cakes. They also have marmite! If I could make one request it would be for wholemeal or granary bread to make toast rather than the muffins or bagels on offer. One correspondent remarked on the lack of air conditioning thereby requiring windows to be open which means noise from an adjoining property and the design of the property leading to other residents walking past an open window thereby impinging on privacy. These are fair points but neither bothered us at all and we didn't find the furniture uncomfortable. There is free wi-fi which our teenage daughter was thrilled about. The nature of the area means that parking can be a bit of a challenge but nothing that was insurmountable and it proved not to be an issue for us. Overall a very nice place to stay in a very nice (perhaps chi chi?) town.

We really enjoyed our stay at Carriage House and looked forward to our morning chat with the kind and accomodating Andy and Lesley as well as visits from Finnegan. We were 2 adults plus two 12 year girls and stayed in the Mandalay suite which became a home from home on our trip. The wine in the fridge as well as the cookies and treats were delightful additions as was the loan of beach towels and body boards on morning trips to the beach. Yes air con or extra fans would have help to cool things in the evening but as a previous comment stated upkeep, maintenance and additions are costly for a small business so I understand but maybe in time. Overall the Carriage House is situated in a fabulous location, is homely, comfortable and value for money, I would most definitely return.

We have been coming to Laguna Beach for 30+ years. We have stayed in the finest of ocean front hotels but we choose the Carriage House as our favorite Laguna Beach stay. We have two daughters that are s17 and 20 and when we talk about where we want to stay, the girls say they want to go back to the Carriage House. This is the place that brings them their favorite memories. The Inn Keepers Andy and Leslie are so kind that they are like family. Their Labradoodle Finnegan is the family pet who everyone adores. As parents, we love having a fully equipped kitchen, living room and separate bedrooms. It gives us all the space we need. The B&B is within walking distance to all of the Laguna Beach attractions. Just two blocks from the best beaches and one mile to main beach where all of the great shopping and restaurants are. For us the Carriage House is a win win and we will continue visiting in the future. The other thing to consider is their price point. For Laguna Beach in peak season you can't beat their prices. The quaint english style continental breakfast you get with your stay is worth the stay alone. Do your homework, you will be surprised. I think the Carriage House is your best stay for the dollar and experience in Laguna.

Cheers to Andy and Leslie for providing an amazing stay in beautiful Laguna Beach!

This B&B has very friendly proprietors, and attractive decor. The owners were as helpful as can be with recommendations and advice. Breakfast was pleasant. However, we were completely lacking privacy because there was no a/c and we had to have the windows open for ventilation. Other guests walked past the front windows and there was a private house with lots of people coming and going behind our room. So it was warm and noisy. The furniture was not very comfortable - formal chairs and sofa in the living room area. The bed was very uncomfortable and very creaky. Bathroom had small tub/shower and limited shelf space. Location was good - an easy walk to the beach and we could walk to downtown Laguna Beach or take the free shuttle.

I stayed for just one night en route to San Diego. Arriving late the wine and snacks in the room were very well received. The room was very spacious, comfortable and well appointed and Lesley and Andy kept me company at breakfast.

Echoing many reviews, I found this place warm, inviting and comfortable, its' hosts gracious and thoughtful. We stayed in the spacious Mandalay which afforded a quiet confortable night's rest. Still, the furnishings are worn and dusty, a commenary others have made several times. I can get past that since I know a place like this requires much expense and maintenance, not easy for non-corporate owners. I cut them some slack and enjoy it for the homey and historic anbience, although I know others would not find those bits charming. The breakfast is served in a cozy room on a table set for family--china and all. This to me feels elegant and like I'm being spoiled! I would definitely come back!
