I recently stayed at Lafayette Hotel and Spa and enjoyed my stay. I like to visit San Francisco but don't particularly like staying in San Francisco. Lafayette is an easy commute to the San Francisco (27 minutes by train) and about $10 round trip via the BART. We also went into Walnut Creek, drove to Yosemite (long drive) and easily went to NAPA and Six Flags from this location.
The advantages of this hotel are:
Shuttle service anywhere within 3 miles of hotel. Always seems to be available.
Swimming Pool and Hot Tub (I did not use the hotel spa)
Good restaurant and good happy hour from 4-6pm (discounted drinks and some food). Childrens menu.
Good and numerous restaurants/supermarkets in Lafayette (remember this is a high-end/expensive town).
The disadvantages are:
Very close to the 24. The noise from the vehicles isn't heard from the hotel rooms, but when you are outside it is a constant noise.
Slightly away the main downtown area of Lafayette. It is quite a walk, but the shuttle is always available.
They make you pay for parking.
There is no launderette in town so you either have to pay for the hotel laundry or take it to a dry cleaners for a wash and fold service (this cost $25 (with a discount) for a very small bag).
This is not a disadvantage for me, but the hot tub and pool will be populated with kids during school breaks. My kid loved this, but I did wonder how the couples felt about this who were maybe looking for a romantic quiet time.
Definitely would go back.
