Visiting Hog's Breath in La Quinta was a pleasant surprise. This second story bar/restaurant is far larger than you would expect from looking at it from the ground floor.
There is a nice bar area inside, bar service and bar tables on an outside patio and both inside and outside dining rooms.
We went for the Happy Hour (Weekdays 3;30 - 6:30) and were lucky enough to garner one of the outside patio tables with bar service. We had a relatively new server who was learning the trade, so service from a promptness standpoint was just ok. However, she was trying to learn her job and did relatively well considering the number of tables assigned and the level of her experience. She was certainly trying to keep her tables rolling and under control, and I believe she will be good in the relatively near future.
We had the Happy Hour Margaritas, made with fresh lime juice, and it was outstanding... and only $5.00. To snack on we tried the homemade chips and they were superb, crisp and tender, with no grease on them. These were served with Blue Cheese dressing; we asked for Ranch as an additional dressing. Both appeared homemade and both were very good.
Tables around us had a variety of Happy Hour and regular menu items and the comments appeared to indicate that the food was consistently of a good quality.
Hog's Breath is part of a Palm Springs organization with a points club for dining rewards. $25.00 to join,m but with $50.00 of gifts certificates after joining. If you eat in the sesert, it seems like a good opportunity to check it out.
Overall, we had a good sunset cocktail, good appetizers and a nice time just before sundown.
This is definitely worth repaeating.
