“Great Course”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2013

Had the chance to golf here last Saturday with some friends. Having never been here before, and knowing this was a public course, I didn't have the highest hopes for a memorable round. Figured it would be a fair golf course with a tough hole or two.

I was mistaken - this course had a great layout. The fairways were very nice and the greens ran quite true ... albeit a little slower than I had expected. Service was great - we seen the cart girl no less than 4 times during our round .. which was a little long as it took almost 5 hours to play ... but considering what a spectacular day it was, that didn't really bother me.

I will be back ... and I will play better!

“Fabulous desert golf in a spectacular setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

I've always been mystified by golfers who stick to the big resort courses at La Quinta, PGA West, Indian Wells and the Marriott Desert Springs. Getting off the resort property will not only save you plenty of money but also give you a much more authentic desert golf experience.

SilverRock is my favourite public course in the Coachella Valley (I've now played it 14 times). What makes it so enjoyable to play is the large variety of holes. There are tough, long par 5s which cross-cross water, some very tough, demanding par 4s (#15 being a great example) together with some short par 4s which dare you to go for the green (#5). Two of the par 3s will challenge you (#3 and #17) but the other two are weak, particularly #14 which is far too short - it's as if the designer ran out of space when laying out the course.

TIP: If your handicap is 14 or higher play the white tees for a much more enjoyable experience. Don't be afraid to play the white/blue mix which provides a nice balance between the 5,900 yard white tees and 6,600 yard blues.

Finally, look for the old water line which can be seen along the boulders and mountain walls on the back 9. This marks the old shoreline of Lake Cahuilla, a huge lake (2,000 square miles) that was created when the Colorado River became naturally dammed up at the Gulf of Mexico. The lake existed for some time but is believed to have emptie by 1600, more than 400 years ago.

“Fabulous”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

This is a golf course you must play. Water on most holes and huge sand traps that guard greens. You must place your shots or face consequences. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. Great driving range and putting green and golf cart included in fees. It is in a picturesque setting along the mountains. It has six tee boxes on almost all holes. Very nice and well kept course. I will definitely play this again.

“good but really tough”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2012

this is a great golf course, nestled against the mountains, the wind is rarely an issue, its well maintianed and well deigned, but tis tough, if you are more than a 14 handicap, think twice!
