“Relaxing stay......”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

Beautiful privately owned golf resort with beautiful grounds in California craftsman design. The rustic decor with 2 wood burning fireplaces blazing in August cannot be beat! The staff was very personable and had great attention to detail. Easy access to downtown, the zoo, Old town, La Jolla and much more. Our stay in the San Diego area was perfect! Five store resort at reasonable prices!

Room Tip: I think all the rooms are great. Maybe request over looking the beautiful pool!

My wife and I stayed for a couple nights and could not have been happier. I recommend treating yourself and go with the ocean view room (not a bad deal after AAA discount). In the mornings you can have a cup of coffee on the patio overlooking the 18th hole of the South course & the Pacific and substitute cocktails in the evening while the watching the sunset. Both restaurants on-site are good and offer a wild variety of selections.
Overall, a very relaxing spot.

We spent 4 nights at the Torrey Pines and our expectations were very hight before the arrival. Soon found out that most of the rooms face the parking lot or the arrival lobby entrance and very noisy . The highway is right behind it, so i recommend getting a golf course facing rooms only, if you want a view and quiet, though even then expect some noise, since the lawn mowers are on ..
So you will not get a resorty feeling there. The Botanical recreation of the Torrey Pines State Reserve views are just couple of Torrey Pine trees that hide the parking lot and the lobby entrance.
Overall the room was very spacious and comfortable, was cleaned twice a day, etc. But did not enjoy our stay due to the noise from the people who were pressure washing till 12 am and the constant noise from the highway, even in the middle of the night. The balcony door was not opening so the bell boy had to send someone to fix it. The wicker furniture was torn apart . We booked through Expedia so maybe that is why we got bad rooms? Still stunned about it.
The clubhouse grill was nothing special at all. So after the first night we ate at the A.R. Valentine which was really good.

Room Tip: Only get rooms facing the golf course and the ocean

I stayed here, late August, 2013. It is the best, most peaceful, well-appointed hotel that I have ever stayed. Most reviews praise the staff, here. They are absolutely correct. Each person added to my enjoyment. I ate at The Grill restaurant once, and changed other restaurant plans, to eat there two more times. The burger, there is the best possible. I will compare it to every burger thatbi eat, going forward. The hotel is pricey, but it is an exceptional value, for what you get. I will return as often as I can.

We just returned from four nights at the Lodge at Terrey Pines to celebrate our anniversary. We stayed in the Thorsen suite. It was very expensive and worth every penny. Do not expect to visit here on a limited budget. Do your homework and understand the cost of the lodging, food, parking, etc. If you arrive understanding and accepting the cost, you will enjoy a relaxing time at The Ldge. Close enough to San Diego, Del Mar, not to mention La Jolla to enjoy it all. We will return.

Room Tip: Do your homework on the rooms. The less expensive rooms are overlooking an interior "reserve&qu...

My family and I stayed at the Lodge in mid July. The accommodations were lovely, the grounds beautifully maintained. We ate at the outdoor grill for breakfast and lunch. We enjoyed delicious meals and wonderful service. For example, during lunch, my daughter was feeling chilly. As she prepared to return to the room for a sweater ,our waiter ( who had overheard our conversation), returned with a warm spa towel for her to wrap herself in! So thoughtful!
We stayed in a garden view double room. The room was very spacious and beautifully appointed. I agree with other reviewers that it is not a "beachy" atmosphere, but the "woodsy lodge" atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and well done.
Each and every staff member was accommodating and friendly.
While at the Lodge don't miss the gliderport, and Torrey Pines state park.
La Jolla is definitely the most beautiful part of San Diego, and the Lodge at Torrey Pines is a wonderful retreat in this jewel of a city.

I love the San Diego area and have stayed at many places in the area over the years, but it was a business event that finally brought me to The Lodge at Torrey Pines: what a special place! The service was precise, but relaxed. The decor was consistent and classic, without feeling "dated." The rooms were spacious with a well-apointed bathroom. I appreciated the complimentary bottle of water and WiFi as well as the turn-down service and overnight shoeshine. My only complaint was the relatively poor lighting in the room, but clearly there was a reason for this: one should take advantage of the outside while staying here! The setting is amazing, with spectacular views at every turn. I wish my golf game was up for the course, but enjoyed just watching golfers tee off as I had breakfast. Definitely worth a return trip for a get-away weekend.

Room Tip: Stay ocean/course side if you can afford it.
