“Room # 2”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2012

My husband and I purchased a "Group On" for the La Jolla Inn back in the summer for a mini suite; 2 bedroom/2 bath hotel room in the heart of La Jolla. We decided to make this our romantic getaway weekend. Let me start by saying the staff was helpful, the in-room/or rooftop continental breakfast was nice, we entered our room to find fresh flowers, chocolate and champagne (we are non drinkers). Here was the challenge; our room, the queen sized bed was directly under a convenience store above/connected to the hotel that was opened until midnight and our door faced the noisy, busy street. We were able to hear the footsteps; high heels, boots, etc. of every patron into the store and that walked past our room. We had no idea any hotel room could be SO NOISY! Not very romantic... If you have NO problem with noise, this is the room for you, if not; ask for another room or chose another hotel, there are several in the immediate area. We were disappointed with that room, the hotel seemed quaint, the free parking was underground two blocks away from the hotel. Love La Jolla, will probably stay at another hotel in the future.

Room Tip: Stay away from Room 2 unless you enjoy noise, the rooftop has an amazing view of the Cove

Hotel charges for early check out. So, if you have no internet, no maid service, and no manager on property to help, so you leave early, you pay. Owner/Manager is unresponsive to e-mails. Although the view if lovely, the staff is not empowered to offer any assistance, and they spend more time in the minimart next door than attending to guests. Rather than getting annoyed in such a lovely place as La Jolla, do yourself a favor and stay elsewhere - you'll be glad you did. And, oh, did I mention the single beds strapped together to form a queen - nice touch - who's going to fall through the middle first!!!!

Room Tip: I would not recommend anyone stay here, regardless of the room selected.

While on our short get away.. we stayed at the La Jolla Inn.: for a location it can't be beat..

The room was clean and tidy and I would recommend this hotel to anyone that wanted a nice place close to all in downtown La Jolla with an ocean view..

They had a continental breakfast each morning that can be delivered to your room or rooftop terrace.

The breakfast included:

Bagels, croissants, cereal, bananas and juice. Coffee is in the library area along with hot water and the toaster to heat up the bagels. (it appears they buy in bulk from Costco) Which isn't horrible but just not fresh and what I would expect from a place in La Jolla.

The room again was clean and organized. Although it was outdated, the curtains were stained and old and the kitchenette area needed repair. They do have water in your room for $3 a bottle as well as other snacks.. I suggest putting those all in a cupboard so you don't get dinged.

The front desk has hit and miss hospitality. On the day we arrived the level of friendliness was not there.. On day two, a very nice and helpful woman was there and on day three a real grump..

Parking is great, $5 a day and once you park about a block away in underground parking, you really do not need a car.

So out of 5 Fair Dinkum stars, I would give the La Jolla Inn a 3.5

To make it a 5, update the older rooms, personalize the breakfast and increase the hospitality of the staff.

So go to the La Jolla Inn, it is a great place to stay.. located right next to the Valencia..... and just a short stroll to La Jolla Cove and the seals

we are staying for 2 nights but everything is horrible. The room smells horrible and it is really small. Doesn't have parking and if we want parking we have to pay 5 dollars per day. What a disaster..!!!! It is too bad that the reservation is for two nights... Front desk doesn't do anything to solve the problem.. .just they give us a spray... stupid... and dissapointed for something that we are paying for... If you can don't choose this hotel at all....

Room Tip: Don't stay here

Lovely little bed and breakfast! Nice room and great location near the water. The front desk staff was very hospitable, and housekeeping staff was very pleasant and efficient, as well. The breakfast offered is more than ample, and was always delivered within 10-15 minutes after we placed our order. We had a rental car, and the off-site, underground parking was only a short walk away, and well worth the small daily fee. The lemonade and fresh-baked cookies in the afternoon were a nice treat, as well. We would absolutely stay here again!

My boyfriend and I stayed for one night on 12/10/11. Had never stayed in La Jolla Cove before and found La Jolla Inn on the internet . .. liked the pictures and amenities so decided to give it a try. When I made the reservations, I was told that we were getting a king sized room with an oceanview and that we would be able to have an early check in. When we arrived about 2:00, not only were we told that our room wasn't ready, but that we were getting a street level, queen sized room and that parking was 2 blocks away in an underground garage. We also noticed a terrible stench in the lobby, which we thought smelled like "wet dog". It was disgusting. We opened the door to the room (Room 8) and found it to be very tiny, heater didn't work and bed was old and way too soft. Carpet was filthy with what looked to be pet stains all over the carpet, as well as the room smelling like "wet dog" as well. It was very small and the only decent part was the shower and tub. No vanity area to put your toiletries on either. It was chilly in the room and the heater didn't work. Walls were very thin and we we could hear our neighbors above us late at night and sounded like someone was moving furniture, lots of banging around. My boyfriend said it sounded like they were F&%#@*^G in the shower. The noise on the street is very loud as well, as the very nice hotel next door had loud music and dj playing late and the bass sound thumping through the walls. Didn't opt for the free continental breakfast, as we were anxious to get the hell out of there and checked out about 8:30 am. Overall, very disappointed for the price. I would have stayed at the Best Western of the Sea, but they were booked that night. We would never stay here again, nor recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: I wouldn't recommend a stay here.

Cant be in a better location in La Jolla, building is older, but rooms are charming and quaint. Tiny room but they manage to get a full size bed and little kitchen area in it. You sacrifice some modern conveniences of a hotel for the location. We had an ocean view room and could see Scripps park And the blue water from our balcony. Breakfast is a drawback (not up to par for a B&B) consisting of muffin, bagel, and cereal. Do yourself a favor and eat at the Living Room cafe or Brockton Villa.
