I did not stay at this hotel but I attended a Beach Barbeque Party with my classmates. The service was great and the staff very attentive. I thoughly enjoyed the beach and the sunset was extraordinary.

Room Tip: Perfect Place to gather with friends but you must be a member of the club to enjoy the beach party b...

We spent three days at this hotel and it was a real splurge, but absolutely worth it. The property is beautiful and well-maintained. The website does not do it justice. We stepped out of our room and were on the beach. The best thing was the fabulous service, and the friendly, helpful attitude of the staff. The pool was very nice, too. (Only downside - would have been nice to have a hot tub.) Everything was so clean and the hotel provides nice towel, beach chairs, beach tables, and even group BBQs that they light up every evening so you can grill your food.

Nice restaurants at the hotel, and also walking distance from other restaurants and fast food.

The setting in the La Jolla Cove is so fabulously beautiful! The water is clear and shallow. You can stand in four feet of water and see fish swimming by! You can also rent kayaks right next door to the hotel and go into caves and see sea lions.

Room Tip: If you pick a beachfront room, ask for one with an unobstructed view. We liked the center ones at t...

The semi-private beach is like a gigantic sandbox--great for little kids and big kids alike. It's a safe place for children to run around while parents enjoy tennis and the beach. Loved the kids club, especially their movie nights. Just wish that one of the tennis courts was a clay court.

Booked 3 nights here over Labor Day weekend 2013. My family of 5 wanted to be right on the beach and indeed we were. Waves crashing outside our room. Because this is a private club, being able to stay as a hotel guests gives you the benefit of being "a member" for the time you are there without actually joining. There are lots of staff around to set up your lounge chairs, beach umbrellas and provide towels. You can order food and drinks (including alcohol) directly on the beach. As the tide comes in, it gets a bit chaotic because what is already a small strip of beachfront, gets much smaller and on a crowded day, groups start to encroach a bit upon each other. As it gets closer to sunset, families and large groups start setting up elaborate dinner tables, bar-b-ques and kids are running around. This spot is far from romantic, but great for families with kids. The rooms are in need of a major update. Beds and linens were very comfortable and each room comes with a small kitchen, which is great for not having to eat every meal from the club/hotel. But the property which is steeped in tradition (1934) is a bit ragged. The carpet is old, as in the furniture. The room was clean, but for about $530 per night, it would be wonderful to have the room be brought up to 2013 standards for the price. I assume the hotel is not the focus of the property, but instead the social, beach, tennis and golf club for the members, which is understandable. I would consider staying here again, though, since the convenience of the location and ease of being there with kids was great.

This is the perfect place for the well-to-do family exploring SoCa. The LJBTC has the ability to pull out all the stops in every way. But, the rest of us can get a less expensive room and still enjoy the facilities as well, dine within walking distance and not spend a fortune. An off note: the room's walls were paper thin, so we could hear our noisy, inconsiderate neighbors. But, everybody has access to the wonderful beaches, the towel & chair services, etc. that you may recall from Cape May or even St. Trop-

Walking distance to numerous restaurants, kayak rentals, small grocery store, bars. Drivable (5-10) to downtown La Jolla strip (Prospect/Girard).

Room Tip: The downstairs rooms ##140-145 have paper-thin walls. They are cheap, but beware. Ask for rooms ups...

La Jolla is a favorite of this "East Coaster". Location, dining, shopping are great. I had not heard of the Beach and Tennis Club until a Trip Advisor review tipped us off. Rooms were great at good prices. Historic tennis courts were top notch. Even the executive 9 hole golf course was great fun.Food at 3 restaurants was very good. Beach Bar BQ with son cooking was a highlight. Beautiful beach and kayaking ... all minutes from down town. Truly a jewel of a place.
You will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: Extra $ for beach room is worth it.

The location and amenities are unparalleled for a summer-time family destination. Comfortable rooms with luxury linens and complete kitchens. Spectacular views of the Pacific ocean and coast line. Best part is the beach is groomed daily and chairs/umbrellas are set up by staff. We enjoy visiting the local shops next to the club or take the scenic walk to the cove via the coast-line trail. It's all great and makes for lifetime family memories. We have vacationed at the LJBTC for over 40 years and will continue to return.
