“Magnificent Location, but the Price - Ouch!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

Magnificent location - step out of your room onto the La Jolla beach. It doesn't get any better than that. However that said, the rooms are rustic, the furniture is bland, there is a musty smell in the rooms (Ours was 125). The rooms do offer a kitchen, including a large refrigerator, a stove, and microwave, which is a plus. The beds and pillows are excellent, the A/C also works well, but the controls are awful. However, the price of $594 plus two different tax amounts is off the charts when it comes to value. This is the most expensive room rate I have ever paid and I stayed in the Marriott Renaissance in Paris and this room in La Jolla was more expensive. The rooms were not even comparable. So, if you have money to spare and want to step into the Pacific, this is your place, but value for money, it is not.

Room Tip: Lower level rooms have instant access to the beach. Service is provided on the beach, and is very go...

“Beach and Tennis Paradise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

We treated our family this summer to a week vacation at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club/Hotel. Can’t say enough about the location, the tennis facility and the people we met there! A bit pricy but all in all a good value considering the amenities that include many tennis courts, 9-hole golf course, nice little lake with a walking trail, a large pool, a good size workout room, massage, ability to have lunch/dinner on the beach, wifi, free parking, starbucks coffee, popcorn) and great food available both at the hotel and the restaurants within walking distance. The weather was fantastic, staff was ready to help or answer questions, kids went to tennis camp and wife was happy on the beach or shopping in La Jolla. I met and played with some outstanding and friendly local tennis players in their 40s and 50s (one woman played on the pro tour!). We also visited the Zoo and Sea World which were fairly close. We highly recommend it especially for tennis families and wish we could have stayed longer!

Room Tip: Beach front rooms are the best!

“Expensive; But Money's Worth”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

Our family, consisting of my wife, daughter, son in law and 3 small granddaughters rented a 2 bedroom, upstairs, beachfront unit for $749 per night. We were there for 3 nights, eating all of our meals either in the unit (kitchen, living room w/hideabed; but only 1 bathroom with double sinks and tub/shower combo) or at the on site restaurant, snack bar or at the beautiful Marine Room Restaurant right at the water's edge. We have been coming here for many years and each year we see improvement in the cleanliness, amenities, maintenance and happiness of the staff. Prices have kept pace with the improvements though as the room rate was just about double what it was 10 years ago. This is probably one of the best, children friendly beaches in the world and the resort controls about 500 yards of it. Waves are gentle, the visibility is good for snorkeling in front of the Marine Room Restaurant and if you are an ocean swimmer, La Jolla Cove is an easy 3/4 mile swim to the south. There is little current; but it changes direction frequently and children playing in the surf require a heads up by the parents as kids tend to drift one way or the other with the current. There is no lifeguard; but the water is so calm, this is not a problem. The smooth, dry sand is cleaned every morning and the staff sets out lounge chairs, tables and umbrellas upon request. We ordered lunch on the beach and a few sunset cocktails as well. All of our meals were delicious and prepared professionally-even the snack shop makes the best strawberry malts anywhere. There is a small pitch and putt link and of course, a bunch of tennis courts, an exercise room, a massage center. There are numerous, very nice, well maintained restrooms and shower facilities right on the beach access points. We showered off after the beach and never had sand in the room (or beds) our entiire stay. The little one, ages 1.5, 4 & 6 were kept busy the whole time playing in the sand, the surf, making sand castles, digging wading pools, boogie boarding, wave hopping and chasing seagulls. Bedtime was an easy event after so much activity. We caught the best weather of the year, mid to high 80's and the rooms had A/C for night time. We used lots of sunscreen and nobody got too badly burned. We would wash off in the showers several times a day and reapply suscreen so we all left looking rosey but mostly tanned. Total bill was around $5000 everything included for 3+ days of pure exhilaration (we were granted early and late check ins as we came in on Friday and left on Monday).

Room Tip: Second floor beachfront rooms are quieter than 1st floor and the veiws are fantastic.

“Wonderful stay at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2012

We had a terrific family vacation, staying in a one-bedroom apt. at the Club, just steps from both the beach and pool. We had an extended family BBQ on the beach one evening at sunset, and enjoyed one of the High-Tide dinners at the Marine Room, the high-end restaurant at the Club. (Pricey but exquisite food, and watching the waves breaking on the windows, revealing sharks and rays swimming by, as we ate dinner was spell-binding.) The apts at the Club come with fully equipped kitchens, which was great for traveling with kids. In addition to a long sandy beach, the Club has a large pool, a kiddy pool, a golf course, several tennis courts, and well-equipped fitness center.

“Slice of Heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

This is one of the best kept secrets in Sourhern California. The ultra exclusive La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club rents rooms just steps from beach. The club is members only and sits on a huge stretch of private beach. Renting a room gives guests full access to the great club. We have spent many amazing summer days under the umbrellas and great care of the club. It is a haven for adults and kids with a large pool, tennis, 9 hole golf course and of course the incredible beach. The waves are gentle for swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding and shark sightings. Harmless leapord sharks call this area home during the summer and swimmers delight in the experience. The rooms are not fancy. You are paying for the club access and proximity to the beach. You can't get closer to the sand than the ocean front rooms. Many have small kitchens too. Plan on having a BBQ on the beach every night as the staff will set up the BBQ tables and chairs or use the community BBQs.
