“do not stay here-not worth the view”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2010

This place looks like it should be the best it overlooks the ocean and you can watch waves from the beds. Sounds wonderful, but it is not worth all the problems.
It appears that the hotel is micro-managed as anything we needed required a manager.
We did not make reservations we were driving and saw this great location so we stopped in to check rates $179.00 plus $15.00 a day parking. We were allowed to go into one of the rooms to see the facilities and the amazing view. There is another hotel up the hill from it, La Jolla Inn so we told them we wanted to check into it. Asking if we left did they still have room’s availability she indicated they had plenty. The other hotel was the same price, the rooms seemed more updated and offered free parking, they only had one room left and the only way to see the ocean from it was to stand on the end of the balcony. I was greedy for the ocean view so we decide on the La Jolla Cove Suites big mistake as now having read other reviews on the La Jolla Inn it seem it would have been nice and no one seems to have a great experience at La Jolla Cove Suites
So we go to check in at the La Jolla Cove and she tells us they do not have a room available we ask why we can not have the one we saw. The answer was until the rooms have been inspected we cannot check in and they will have to get a manger to clear a room. We also wanted to negotiate parking since the neighboring hotel is free only a manger can approve that. After about a half hour of waiting we finally get a manger to approve a room for us to check into which is not the same one we saw and drop parking rate to $7.50.
The bedspreads are very dated and well worn. The bed is uncomfortable the pillows are flat and also appear to be in need of being replaced. We take working vacations and have our laptop with us, this hotel does not have any internet access available in the rooms only the business center. We are very unhappy with this as we feel every hotel room should have some access available wired or wireless if not free at least with the option to pay for it but some access. So in voicing our frustration we are told they do have a room directly above the business center that has internet access but it is more money and she would have to check with a manger to see if we could even upgrade and move. We have a Verizon air card and decide we did not want to spend any more money at this dump. Turns out Verizon does not work at this hotel either for phone or internet every time we got on the phone call it would cut off and we were never able to get an internet connection that also did not keep dropping. It did not appear to be our location because phones worked fine out side of the hotel. We requested an hour later check out and were told only a manger could approve that and they would have to call back which was approved but why can’t the front desk approve that.
When we checked in we were told this was a pet free hotel and they required us to sign that we did not have one yet that eveing we could hear a dog barking a couple of doors down. The last issue was that the elevator broke and the only way up and down was the stairs (this is a 5 floor hotel) not to bad unless you are hauling luggage.
I will never stay here again or recommend this place to anyone.

I would never recommend this hotel! There front desk staff was very unpleasant, not welcoming AT ALL, she never smiled it just felt like there whole staff wanted to be somewhere else than at work. There rooms at not updated, and at $200 and something a night COME ON. Atleast they provided free breakfast but than again so does motel 8 but that hotel was not near the wedding, too bad. I get that it's near the beach but there service does not have to be this way. I work at the front desk for a ski resort and we would not I mean not stand for this kind of service.....

Came here on an anniversary getaway and regretted booking the room as soon as we pulled up. The exterior decor is out-dated, with thick layers of paint covering up years of rust. The pepto bismal pink color of the building upsets your stomach as soon as you notice the bright teal accents. I can't deny the prime location and the pristine view, but everything else is TERRIBLE!!!! Right after parking the car, we couldn't help but gag from the nasty smell of toxic paint. There was no air circulation in the extremely slow elevator. The gift shop looks like a joke, with an old-fashion, patio glass sliding door as the entrance. No one is even attending the desk at the gift shop. The room was humid and also carried over that nasty toxic paint smell, which looms all over the property. The room has out-dated, old, and awful furniture. The bed was the most uncomfortable sleep of my life. the pillows were flat. The mattress NEEDS to be upgraded. The TV looks like it came from a space-ship, and not one with advanced technology. The toilet is like the kinds from a public restroom, you know the kind you flush with your foot! And better yet, the sink pokes you right in the ribs when you sit on the toilette. There is no Air Conditioning or heating in the room. Just a tiny fan in one corner. There is a decent sized balcony that has a fabulous view of the cove, but it has no light in the evening, and the railings are only painted on the outside, so that those who pass by see that it looks painted, but on your side of the balcony, you see the rust. The balcony furniture is old and rusty too. Everything is very old and needs to be updated. For such nasty features, they are charging $218 a night. It is RIDICULOUS! Yes they do have a heated pool, but you have to climb a mountain of stairs to get to it. And yes they do have a sun deck with an amazing view, where they serve a minimal continental breakfast - there are not buts here. The only great thing about this place is that it does have the most incredible view of La Jolla cove and it is literally 20 steps from the hotel's front door to the ocean. If you want to avoid neck and back pain, and possibly damaging yoru lungs from toxic fumes, please do not stay here. Otherwise, negotiate to pay $50 a night if you're willing to put up with the old crap (not sure if the MOTEL will go for that).

Spent five days there, started with defrosting the freezer which was so iced that the floor was covered in water. Disfunctional internet and phone communications, then after checkout realized that we had left a bottle of wine and, after returning to the room to ask the maid to look, were charged a half day rate while we awaited her return because we were "using the room". No hospitality here, look elsewhere for ambiance and friendliness...

This really is a motel, not a full service hotel. But the rates were great and the location excellent. The only downside is also it's location- right on the beach, which meany lots of people at the beach try to use the hotel's facilities ( parking, ice machine, etc...) which was the only problem and the hotel tries it's best to contain it.
It was a little difficult sleeping with the traffic noise so bring some ear plugs. Bu t it was better than the next place we stayed for twice as much. I definitely give it a thumbs up !

My husband, 18mth old son and nanny stayed in a 2bedrm 2bthrm. Even thought this place is and older I still enjoyed the location and the staff. I am a picky one when it comes to where I stay and was worried b/c of the reviews I had viewed before our trip but all was fine when we arrived. The downside where the way the hotel is set up you can hear everything that goes on outside in the hallways and walls are thin so you can hear when other guest use the restroom or turn on the water. But the view was GREAT and walking distance to some nice places to eat and drink. I would stay here again.
