Let's start with the good part - the steaks were very nice. And then the interior decoration as such is nice, with comfortable chairs and sufficient lighting.
And then it becomes really difficult to remain positive, and we wondered whether this may be the result of a difference in dining cultures. As far as we were concerned, the service of the different staff members was not good at all. We arrived at 18:50 with a reservation at 19:00, but were directed to the bar next to the entry to wait and order drinks of course ($$). We could see plenty of empty tables in the dining room and asked to be seated, but we were made to wait. After being seated the service at the table was the kind of rehearsed 'plastic' friendliness with arrogance, and without substance. In other words, there was no or very late response on actual requests (would you please bring us a tooth pick?) and a lot of advertising at the table (our beef is all prime, as opposed to other restaurants blablabla). And then the wines. When asked for advise on local wines, the 'head' waiter points out almost the most expensive wine by the glass. Now the people in our party were ready to spend good money on good food, and all have a lot of dining experience around the world, but that behaviour immediately raises a red flag.
Once we decided to start with a wine by the glass (different tastes with different dishes), one of us asked to see the wine bottle when the glass is served. That to us is normal, especially when the price for a glass is 20 USD. No such luck and it got worse. When insisting, another waiter came first with a closed bottle and when we explained that would not do, they came with a bottle that had just enough wine in it for one glass (refilled for the occasion?).
Well, there would be more to continue, but these examples show what is wrong, at least for us. The service from the door to the table and back is misguided and just not appropriate. That kind of focus on appearance is really silly when you cannot back it up with true hospitality and knowledge. Anyway, hooray for the cooks in the kitchen, they did a good job.
