“Consistently outstanding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

My husband and I travel to La Jolla once a year, and Estancia has become our hotel of choice. It's very hard to beat the gorgeous grounds, comfortable, elegant rooms, great restaurants and gorgeous pool/spa area. This year was no exception. It's a first rate hotel, and is a tremendous value - highly, highly recommended.

Room Tip: We have stayed in four different rooms in four areas of the resort, and can honestly say they have a...

There is no higher compliment than a guest who returns year after year- except maybe a guest who takes the time to write such a lovely review about it! Thank you so much for being a loyal guest and for the kind words about our product and service. We hope you enjoyed the new guest rooms and the enhancements to the Spa... and we look forward to seeing you again next year!

The staff, from the front desk to the valets (especially the valets) are obviously enjoying their job and could not be more friendly, sincerely interested in your experience and helpful. Kudos to the management for the training and overall environment.
The only "con" for us is that there is only one restaurant on site open for dinner and the menu is a bit, well, different. It's also somewhat pricey for the portions. So, if you don't want to eat at the same place 4 nights in a row, you have to drive to La Jolla or Del Mar for a good restaurant or bar.

Thank you for the review and for acknowledging our hardworking valet team. We’re sorry you didn’t enjoy the menu at Mustangs & Burros. Did you know that Bodega Wine Bar just launched a new menu featuring rustic, American fare? Everything from mac n’ cheese n’ fried chicken if you’re feeling nostalgic to a short rib dish with stilton fondue and truffle chips. As you mentioned, there are also some fantastic restaurants in Del Mar and La Jolla, which is only a 10 minute drive!

This hotel was top notch! We celebrated a milestone birthday for a friend by using the spa and pool, then staying in the hotel and eating at one of the restaurants. The staff was amazing, accommodating and pleasant. We did have some confusion as to receiving a champagne bottle gift from a friend, and the spa staff seemed to not understand what to do when I asked about it. They offered a glass of champagne while they were figuring out where the bottle was, but they never delivered the promised glasses. But...that was the worst thing that happened to us. They finally delivered the bottle with the personalized note, and we enjoyed the champagne by the pool.

The staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome and pampered.

The grounds are beautiful. The room was wonderful. Lovely place.

Room Tip: Check out the specials, then compare if you "ala carte" the rooms. The Girlfriends Getawa...

We found the location and the use of the amenities very accessible, especially for someone who has handicapp needs. We found our room to be convenient to the spa and the pool area. The valet service staff was very courteous and helpful.

Room Tip: If you wish to use the pool you need to ask at the desk so they can give you a room close to it.

Decided to have a last minute getaway with the girlfriend and booked this place because bookit.com had a pretty good price with a free upgrade on this hotel. Not really knowing the layout of La Jolla, I expected this place to be closer to the cove - instead it was tucked away next to the UCSD campus. Not exactly the picturesque area I was imagining, although it is about a 2 mi walk from Blacks - clothing optional beach!

We also go upgraded to the Verdana room but the room wasn't anything special especially when we could hear EVERYTHING the people in the room next door were saying! We were too tired to complain so we put up with it but we weren't really happy.

There were some nice amenities- internet, margaritas, champaign, morning paper but then again, we were charged 17 dollars a day for it. Another issue was valet parking - 35 dollars a day which is sort of typical - but I always felt weird when I didn't have enough money to tip the valet guy.

That brings me to the best part of the hotel - everyone was really nice and helpful. We also didn't take advantage of the spa part of the hotel, we ar.e so used to spas in Asia which cost a fraction of the 125 dollar massages here. Overall, it was a nice stay, but I'm not sure I would come back

We enjoyed our stay very much. The grounds are a plant lovers delight, lots of nooks and seats
to sit and enjoy the fountain, or just take in the spring blooms. We had an Estate King Room, and it was just right, with a balcony overlooking the courtyard. They have a salt water pool, and spa on the other end, which we prefer. Dining in house was very good, and the signature welcome Margaritas were great also. Close enough to get to Trader Joe's, or any of the local places to eat, and walk around down in the cove area of La Jolla. Staff attentive, Valet service spot on. Maids needed a little reminder about coffee and towels, usual stuff. We will stay again, robes are nice touch, in room movies, total relaxation for weary working couples. Most important, when I voiced a concern they fixed it, and no repeats. that's customer service.

Room Tip: Opt for a balcony courtyard view, and enjoy the beautiful plants, fountain, and birds in the morning...

Just spent spring break and could not have been more pleased! This is a three story Spanish architecture hotel and spa. We had a first floor patio room facing the extensive gradens (which are beautiful). Beautiful room! Mini fridge, coffee maker, bottles of water are provided. Parking is valet and the staff is great in providing directions, sight-seeing/resturant suggestions and bottles of water for the road! There are 3 resturants on site, room service is available (even for late arrivals!). Pool area is outstanding with covered cabanas (w/mini fridge) and hot tub. No kiddie pool. Fitness center was above par with cool down towels provided. We truly enjoyed this hotel! The down side - no beach BUT an amazing beach is about 10 minutes (by auto) away. Torrey Pines golf course is about 10 minutes away and University of SanDiego is across the street. And did I comment on how quite it is?! I loved it!

Room Tip: Choose a room facing the gardens!
