Owner description: San Diego's most desirable spot for swimming, diving and snorkeling. The water is calm and the cove is ecologically protected. There is also a world famous dive site that is located in the La Jolla ecological preserve.

This is one place near San Diego where you can enjoy watching the seals play, beautiful sunset views, snorkeling in the cove and swimming in the ocean...
Must go when visiting San Diego.

“Give it a shot”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2013

We expected to spend a lot of time in La Jolla, but ended up stopping by the Childrens Beach to see the seals and feed the squirrels! The cove is a different experience, so it's worth stopping. We did not do any street walking in the town.

I loved the day spent at the cove. We rented snorkel gear and our 10 yr. old had a blast in and out of the water. the sheltered area was pleasant and scenic with seals just off coast. Cucumber sea creatures captivated us. The marine life was beautiful. And the craggy rocks were fun to swim around and splash about

“"A perfect Beach outing"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2013

Visited LaJolla in San Diego.. A cabbie told us to visit this beach.. We were at the sea world and weren't enjoying much as kids were little grown up and decided to go to the beach.. It was a bliss for us to see such a nice and clean beach.. It was our first beach visit in USA and we thoroughly enjoyed.. It was windy and chilly though the season was May.. Families with children were bathing and enjoying.. A well manicured lawn was their besides the beach where people were sitting with their picnic hampers.. On the sides of the road were quite a lot of stalls.. Lots of restaurants and eateries.. A must visit:)

“Snorkeling in the caves is a must!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

My family and I went to La Jolla cove for 4th of July, and even though the parking was sparse and we needed to get there at the crack of dawn--it was so worth it! The highlight of my day was snorkeling and swimming to the caves. When I initially walked up the hill to look down at the area, I thought there was no way my son and I could swim that far, but we did it and the turquoise waters with the many orange fish and sometimes even rarer ones was fantastic. A seal swam 3 feet underneath us at one point, scary but amazing. The fireworks show was great. Shell beach beat me up some what with all the rocks and coral and barely any sand bar, kinda rough there. Didn't go down to Seal beach but saw it from the cliffs and ocean--pretty. My husband said he felt like we were in a refugee camp in the grass because it was busy and they closed the bathrooms and showers which wasn't very nice. Yes the seals and bird feces smell but what do you expect? Price you pay to see animals in their natural habitat and swimming with them, you just can't beat it. I wouldn't come here with your boogy boards, no waves. Come here if you want to picnic, snorkel, see the wildlife and scenery.
