My wife and I went to La Jolla to meet with some friends and do some shopping (and just get away). We had been to La Jolla numerous times before and found our previous lodgings unsuitable for this trip.We Looked at TripAdvisor and found LJS the highest rank in our price range and reserved through Hotels.com on the TA website. As noted, the rooms are a little dated, but the location is good and the staff is friendly and accommodating. We had requested an ocean view with a king bed. All of those being booked, Will at the desk upgraded us to a kitchenette unit with ocean views and a king bed.
We had one dinner and our three breakfasts at the Shores restaurant. The dinner selections are unique, but delicious. We each had a salad; my wife had the Butterfish and I had the Diver Scallops. Both were cooked perfectly. Service was excellent.
We also met with sight friends for lunch and were pleased with the food and service at that meal. The hotel is about a five minute drive from he center of La Jolla and its shops and restaurants, but we never went there. We shopped at Fashion Valley (about 15 minutes) and ate our other dinners near the hotel at Piatti's and Barabella's
The free wifi worked in our room for web and enail; although a little slow at times. I'm not sure that I'd attempt to stream a movie.
The only slight complaint is the $16 nightly parking charge. They say you can park on the streets, but they're pretty crowded and have variable parking hours. One of our friends in the area mentioned a beach parking lot, but I'm not sure whether overnight parking is allowed.
