“Wonderful hotel in a great town!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012 via mobile

My husband and I stayed at the Grande Colonial with our 3 month old daughter for 4 nights. From the moment we checked in to the moment we checked out, we were treated to wonderful service and great accommodations. The valets were so nice and friendly. The room was spacious and clean, and was very tastefully decorated- classy, but comfortable. The Grande Colonial is located in wonderful La Jolla. What a great place to walk everywhere! From shops to restaurants to the beach-all accessible by foot in a safe setting. When visiting the San Diego area, I wouldn't recommend anywhere else to stay but here!

We just got back from a 5 night stay at the Grande Colonial and we keep talking about how fantastic our stay was! We normally spend our summer beach vacation on Coronado Island and decided to try something different, and we're so glad we did! We're pretty much done with Coronado Island now and will make La Jolla and this hotel in particular our tradition! The location is beyond fabulous and the hotel is clean, beautiful, fantastic service (especially valet and bellmen). I was concerned that it was a historic hotel and that "charming and vintage" meant "old and worn out", which is about as far from the truth as possible. We were sad to leave, but definitely plan on returning over and over again.

This hotel was the hotel of my dreams! I cannot say enough wonderful things about the room. The room was so clean and up to date and contemporary. The bed was wonderful and we could open our windows in the morning and look out at the Pacific Ocean. The hotel breakfast we had outdoors on the sidewalk cafe was wonderful and very reasonable. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the pool because you can also see the Pacific. Our room was #414 and it was gr...

We just got back from a wonderful stay at the Grande Colonial and I don't usually write reviews but our stay was so perfect that I felt I had to. All the positive reviews about this hotel are spot on and the photos are totally accurate - it's a beautiful boutique hotel and every single staff member we dealt with was extremely helpful and friendly. Benny, Matt, and Andy, were valets/bellhops that were especially fantastic. (We rented a convertible for the first time and Benny seemed almost as excited as us about it! He insisted on going to the balcony of the hotel to take a birds-eye view photo of us in the car - so sweet! And Andy was so nice in helping us figure out how to open the sun roof, which was more complicated than we thought!). They made us feel so at home and were an absolute pleasure.
The location of the Grande Colonial could not be better; it's right near all the great restaurants and shops of La Jolla, but is also a block away from the La Jolla cove where we had an amazing time snorkeling right next to the most adorable baby sea lions.
We loved our room - the decor is elegant but comfortable. We had a village view king room, but still had a view of the ocean from one of the windows, which was a nice perk!
If you're looking to stay in La Jolla, there's no question that this is the absolute perfect place!

We had booked a "garden suite" in order to have a fridge and a microwave (we have a toddler). But when we arrived, we were given the 2nd floor of a patio suite. There's no garden and no elevator. So I asked if there was something better, and they moved me to the main building and provided me with a microwave and a mini fridge, which resolved my issue and was cheaper. And the view? Prospect street is always nice. The guys at the valet parking are very nice and helpful, the hotel is clean, and very well located in La Jolla. The restaurant's menu is not toddler friendly (very complicated) but is good. And if laundry is an issue, the concierge helped me find a very nearby dry cleaner that does the laundry, folds and delivers to the hotel, charging you per pounf and not per item like all the hotels do, so that made the vacation much enjoyable!

Room Tip: Don't reserve a "garden view", its a patio and no elevator. The view to prospect st is...

We come to San Diego a lot. It's a quick get away from Palm Springs when it's 110 degrees. We have stayed here before and have tried other places in San Diego. we absolutely love the Grande Colonial. We always get the Garden View Suite. It has a kitchenette, little living room, fireplace and a bed to die for. Complimentary sodas, candy, chips, coffee. Love, Love Love The Grande Colonial. 2 short blocks to the ocean and downtown La Jolla
