“Lovely Hotel, Perfect Location, Great Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2011

We had a very large, comfortable 1st floor suite with a beautiful view of the ocean, even though it was listed as "partial" ocean view (suite 220). Directly above cove where seals can be seen daily, on main street with lovely shops and restaurants. Front desk staff was wonderful- extremely helpful and courteous, recommended great kayaking trip and running routes. Highly recommend.

Much research went into selecting the Grande Colonial, and it was worth it. Beautiful ocean view room, larger than expected and recently redecorated. All rooms are different shapes and sizes-very unique, so ask for a larger or smaller room. Service excellent. Pretty quiet. Restaurant was smaller than expected, but intimate and good food selection. Only thing missing was nightly entertainment, which we found down the street, but La Jolla is fairly subdued at night. Valet guys were the best we've ever had, and we've traveled the U.S. Perfect location, walk anywhere and everywhere. We'd stay again.

Room Tip: Most rooms are different sizes

My wife and I along with our baby boy very much enjoyed our stay for 7 days.

The front desk staff and valet folks are very helpful and accommodating. We had rented a suite, but the parlor room had too much furniture for the size. We asked them to remove some of the furniture, to allow for more play area for our toddler. They accommodated this within minutes. We were very appreciative of that.

This is a boutique hotel, located within walking distance of nice restaurants and excellent shopping. We utilized this location as a base while we visited other attractions in the San Diego area (Zoo, Sea World, Animal Park, and Coronado Beach). All within 20 minutes of the hotel – other than Animal Park, this was about 40 minutes.

The facility is excellent, lovely although small pool, with a great restaurant (Nine-Ten is one of the best restaurants in the area, for both breakfast and dinner – we did not have lunch there during our stay).

The only 2 negatives would be: (1) Not the best for kids. This is better for a couple’s romantic getaway. This falls in line with La Jolla, which overall is better suited for a couple versus family. (2) Housekeeping was just ok. We had some mold in our shower, for which we alerted the front desk, but was apparently overlooked. Also, supplies (shampoo/lotion) were not re-stocked on a daily basis.

Overall, a very nice place to stay, with exceptional service.

Loved it! Great location, ocean view rooms and comfy bed! I was there for a business meeting which I coordinated with the exceptional sales staff, Audra and Lauren. They followed up with me daily ensuring a flawless meeting. They were very accommodating as last minute things were thrown their way. Once there, the staff delivered exceptional service in every area! We will definitely be back!

The Grande Colonial is a great place to stay! The rooms were very pretty and definitely clean. It is in a perfect location in La Jolla with shopping and restaurants just outside your door. You can walk down to the water in just a couple of minutes. There is a nice pool on the property. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The restaurant is great for breakfast, lunch and dinner and has indoor and outdoor seating. I am soo picky when it comes to where I sleep and get nervous booking something online but this is a definite. Enjoy!
