“Loved the view by the touch tank and divers in the kelp forest”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

Very nice aquarium showing fish of the area. Enjoyed it all especially the diver feeding the fish in the kelp tank and the views outside by the touch tank. Amazing seeing surfers in April! So many down on the beach.

“Love this Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2013

There is a lot to see here and it has an incredible view. I recently visited here with a friend, and just loved the seahorse exhibit. There are also sea dragons on display, which are really beautiful. If you enjoy aquariums you should not miss this one.

“OMG Seadragons!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

I have a new favorite animal and it is the weedy sea dragon. So cool!!!! Just google or wiki them to see what I mean. I also enjoyed the other parts of this acquarium. Birch is smaller than other acquariums like Baltimore or Camden, but I felt the marine life was just as interesting (if not more so with the sea dragons). The facility seems to be really well maintained, and there are things to see and do outside as well as in. Plus, you can't beat the panoramic ocean view once you step outside. I would totally go here again :)

“We found Nemo ;o)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

We found Nemo ;o)

For Easter Vacation this year we planned a road trip to San Diego. Maybe not the best idea with toddlers, but we were determined to get out and about and have a good time.

As part of our Easter Vacation we decided to visit Birch Aquarium at Scripps. We are regulars at the Monterrey Bay Aquarium and felt this was a natural stop for us. We spent several hours here and the kiddos had a blast. Because it was Easter week, the Aquarium set up an “egg” hunt with plastic eggs hidden in with various animals. After finding all of the eggs we unscrambled the letters (written on the eggs) to answer a sea life riddle and earn a bookmark prize.

In addition to the egg hunt, there were a number of children’s activities set up including a craft where the kids colored, glued and twisted a shark egg case, similar to the one they were able to touch earlier in the day.

There are also a number of permanent interactive water activities that teach about hydro power, currents and tides etc. These are outside on the deck. Tables with umbrellas are located on the deck so that tired parents can rest up a bit while the kiddos run around and burn off some excess energy.

As a side note, Scripps has a beautiful octopus that was one of the most animated that I have ever seen in the day time. He was all over the glass from one side of the tank to the other. It was really cool to get such a good look at him all stretched out! We also enjoyed the sea horse exhibit.

Now the logistics . . . the bathrooms were easy to find and clean. The staff was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. One of the kiddos was fascinated by the shark egg case and asked many questions. The staff member was patient and answered them all with no trace of annoyance. We decided to eat at the café. I recommend the kids meals. The meals come in a plastic lunch box the kiddos carried around the rest of the trip, keeping all of their “treasures” secure.

Overall a nice day at the aquarium

“Great acquarium”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

I saw different types of jellyfishes, sea horses, fishes from the movie "Finding Nemo" and sharks. A part of the aquarium houses, some types of sea anemones, star fishes and a sea cucumbers. In this part of the aquarium, one can touch the fishes. That was cool.
