“Stepping Back in Time, but in a Good Way”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

Loved this hotel. I cannot say enough. The service, restaurants, room services, common space, amenities, pool, and of course location! We had to switch hotels during our trip and were thankful that we ended up at La Valencia. This hotel is a beautifully remodeled and preserved old hotel. As long as you know that you will not be disappointed. The rooms ARE small, but incredibly charming. The decorators did a wonderful job and walled one wall in mirror to give the illusion of a much larger room. We were fortunate to have a small balcony, and I do mean small, but it opened up to the Pacific and you cannot beat the view. Small closet and small bathroom, but quite efficient. These early 20th Century hotels have beautiful common space as the leisure traveler of the day didn't spend much time in their rooms, they were enjoying all that the hotel offered, and we did the same.

Dear Philly Guest,
Thank you for taking time to share your lovely compliments on La Valencia; we are delighted to know that our circa 1926 boutique hotel was a hit including your guest room. We actually have a wide variety of rooms types and sizes so not all are small. Our Vintage rooms, cozy but with exceptional views are in the main tower but we also have our classic rooms and suites which average 450 – 550 sq. ft and our villas which include a 1,400 sq. ft retreat – please try one of these next time!
Best regards,

Stayed one night in December. Had a newly remodeled room with peek-a-boo ocean view. Room was large and beds were comfortable. Lovely toiletries. We were lucky to catch a holiday concert given by the La Jolla High School singers in the lobby bar--festive Christmas carols. Happy hour prices are very reasonable. Love that they still put up a fresh cut tree!

Dear San Diego Holiday Guest,

We’re so happy you made time to enjoy some of our holiday festivities. Yes indeed a fresh cut tree is an annual tradition and this year we added our Sea of Lights to the gardens for some more magic. Thank you for the wonderful accolades on our newly renovated rooms and amenities which include Molton Brown of London imported toiletries. See you soon!

We checked into our room, went to open the curtains and found they were in tatters. As we looked around we noticed how scraped up the finish was on the tables and our carpet had a big ugly patch in it. Unacceptable for a hotel in this category.

Room Tip: We were over the bar which was noisy. Ask to be elsewhere.

Dear Fallbrook guest
Our apology for the shortfall in room quality. La V is in the final stages of guest room renovations and the room you occupied (likely not yet renovated) had yet to receive a full make-over. As we speak I am coordinating the final floor (and remaining un-renovated rooms) to be placed out of service for work so we can ensure that all rooms are indeed of superior quality and mirrors that of our attentive and friendly service. Please know that we’re listening and eager to regain your loyalty and your business.
Best regards,
Mark Dibella

We had the most wonderful 3 nights there recently travelling with our dog! We stayed at 7 different hotels on this driving trip, and this was the top by far. We went due to a special internet offer I received and we were heading that way anyway, but we would go back and pay full price without a question. The rooms were lovely, the views, the staff and the romantic ambience was just the highlight of our trip! Of course the dog was spoiled rotten too, she like having doors opened for her and cookies whenever we allowed it. You can walk for miles along the ocean front, (although times are restricted for pets even on leash), many shops at your fingertips and good restaurants too. The restaurant service at the hotel was excellent however the food was not up to the quality of the hotel in our opinion. Good but not great!

Room Tip: Upgrade to a villa if you can, very spacious with lovely private patio's for relaxing.

I booked this hotel on Hotwire. I was excited to see that it was the La Valencia.
I had walked through the lobby 8 years ago, and thought it would be a good place to stay. It far exceeded my expectations. I was given a room upgrade without asking for one. The room was perfect...cozy, quiet, quant....almost the feel of the 1920's but with modern convenience. Small bathroom, but easily adequate. Great location right in the heart of this adorable upscale community.

Dear Chattanooga – welcome back!

How wonderful that your memories of a stroll through our lobby 8 years ago brought you back to La V and I m pleased that you enjoyed our stay. Our type of ambiance can only be found through the 8 plus decade evolution of our Mediterranean inspired architecture, romantic terraced gardens and our spectacular coastal setting. We hope to see you again soon.

Cheers,

I did not stay at this hotel but was a sponsor at my sister in law's wedding. I got to experience a fantastic reception at this hotel. I also observed the detailed service they gave to make everything perfect for such an occasion. The views from this hotel are fantastic. It's elegance speaks for itself. The suite was cozy and again, had a remarkable view of the cove. Breathtaking...

Dear Diamond!
We LOVE weddings and feel so honored to be such a sought after venue. Our rooms and views are indeed stunning and I am happy to know that La V set the right stage for your family. We hope the bride and groom return for many more anniversary celebrations. Please plan to join us again in 2013.

Can't beat the location-just steps to restaurants, shopping & the cove. Staff was professional & helpful. Live music in the lobby was nice touch. Breakfast was good, but a little pricey, especially if you just want something lite, but they have free coffee in the room & in the lobby....Would definitely stay here again, especially with the rate I got at BookIt, which included free parking a bottle of wine-saved over $400.

Dear NJ Guest –

And many thanks from La V – we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay, especially the staff. In 2013 we’re planning some new options for dining including a return of Café La Rue (originally opened in the 1940’s). This venue will include more casual dining options a la European Bistro fare and is set to open in late April – we hope you come back and visit!

Happy Holidays,

Mark Dibella,
