“Overall nice place, fairly close to Northstar. Nicely located on the beach.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2013

There was not much available during the Christmas at the ski resorts , so we booked a room at FERRARI'S CROWN.
The room had partial lake view, it had kitchenette and 1 king bed.

When I booked the room I assumed that “King Lake View” would face a lake.
Turned out that is called “King Lake Front”.

There is breakfast area – I’d suggest bringing peanut butter and maybe cream cheese with you. There is a Safeway nearby where you can buy groceries.

The only complain is very noisy thermostat. It kept turning on and off and making very loud clicking sound.

Overall nice place, fairly close to Northstar. Nicely located on the beach.

Sorry for the mix up on the room types. We have worked to make our room descriptions accurate. We have some of the few true "lakefront" rooms on the North Shore to try to make that differentiation. We do provide cream cheese and yogurt in the breakfast room but no peanut butter. In terms of sleep quality, all beds in the lakefront or lakeview rooms are either 1 or 2 years old and are a high quality Serta bed. They are a firm bed. We do understand how a faulty heater can upset a night's sleep. These types of problems are difficult for us to know we have unless a guest makes us aware. I do occasionally sleep in our rooms to look for issues such as this but didn't catch this one. If you would like, provide us which room number you were in and we will make sure the problem is corrected. We will also offer you a discount on a future stay.

Thanks again for staying with us and I hope you will give us another try.

The Crown is my go-to place for when I ski multiple days in north lake -- even though it's a longer trek to everything but Northstar. Kings Beach has a unique charm and this motel fits right in. Unpretentious and utilitarian with a very friendly staff. It's not the Ritz, but I'm always too tired to be bothered by a little noise from my neighbors. The hot tub is essential; reserve early.

Thanks for the nice review. We do hope the Crown and being right on the shore of Lake Tahoe is worth a couple more miles to drive. Not too many places anymore that one can be on the Lake at a reasonable price.

See you next time.

This hotel was affordable, in a great location, and with a beautiful view of the lake. We loved playing ping pong, dipping in the hot tub during sunset, and walking to Kings Beach. I would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the road, as traffic can get loud--especially when leaving the windows open...

Thanks for taking the time to get back to us. We agree that rooms closer to road are a bit noisier but thankfully, Kings Beach is a pretty slow town at night. We did just replace all the windows in rooms 401 to 407 to double pane and rooms are much quieter according to our regulars.

See you next time.

We arrived on Monday 7th January and the Motel was quite so we asked for a room with a view and we were told that we would have to pay quite a lot extra as a supplement. Now as they were, and would be very quite for the four days we were staying I would have expected our room to be moved at no cost as it would not effect them what room we stayed in. Alas not to be, can't win them all! Personally though the rooms were sub-standard and we could hear noise way down from us to the nearest room that was occupied, so would not like to hazard a guess what it would have been like if we had occupants either side of us. The bathroom was like nearly every other motel in America, dated, very dated, but unlike the rest this one had the advantage of a basin that was so close to the toilet I had problems getting on and off the toilet, and I'm of average hight and weight! If you are a larger person give this place a miss, as the bathroom is way to small.
You get what you pay for here, but its close enough to the resorts if you haver your own transport so well located.

Sorry we didn't offer the free upgrade. We sometimes do this or upgrade for less than rack rate but have no strict policy on this. In an area that is seldom at full occupancy, it would not make good business sense to do free upgrades as a general policy. We will always move a guest to a different room in the same room type if available.

Looking at our room log from guests arriving on January 7th, it appears you stayed 3 nights in room 121. This is a popular room for us but it is one of two rooms that has a smaller bathroom with the toilet near the tub. We were able to correct this limitation in all but these two rooms.

We do have a good location in both summer and winter and try to keep our rates more than competitive.

Thanks for getting back to us.

Great location to major ski resorts, clean rooms, friendly staff and very affordable. Private hot tub was awesome( sign up early) great views of the lake, balcony wraps around the building didn't need a lake view room to enjoy the view.i would definitely stay here in the future.

Thanks for getting back to us. Being clean, friendly and affordable is certainly what we strive to be. We do have some bad days but many more good ones… we also hope that our easy access to the shore of Lake Tahoe is an extra amenity.

Hope to see you again,

We have been coming to Ferraris for years. They always have great prices and friendly staff. The location is right on the beach and the private hot tub is always nice after a long day on the slopes. We stayed at Ferraris for new years and usually our dog is fine sleeping in his insulated kennel however this time is was just too cold for him (a yellow lab). We had alreay payed to stay 5 nights but after the first night with the dog situation we knew we would have to go somewhere " dog friendly". Dave the owner gladly refunded us in full without hesitation. We are sad they don't allow animals but will still definatly be back for years to come! Thanks!

We were blown away by the location and the proximity to the Lake. Since we went in October during the off-season, you roll the dice on the weather but it was beautiful and peaceful since the tourist season was over and the ski season had yet to start. We could literally walk out of our room, go about 100 feet and be at the lake's edge. Continental breakfast was more than adequate. It was definitely worth the price to get a lake-view room; since we were the only ones on our floor, they graciously upgraded us to a king-size with a fireplace. However, the weather was so great we often slept with the windows cracked.

With that being said, I could see this being a popular and noisy location during the peak seasons.

Room Tip: Great views of Lake Tahoe from the lake view rooms.

Thanks for the review Chris,

The shoulder seasons are always a great time to visit us, stay tuned for future off-season rates on our lake view rooms. We'll see you next time.
