“Large and soulless but it does the job”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2014

Distinctly large and soulless there are a number of things that make this hotel something worth considering.

Firstly it has a nice and airy lobby perfect for waiting for your tours in, a couple of internet computers, a nice restaurant that does a tasty breakfast and staff with good English. Secondly while it is used by some tour companies the place is not a hangout for the drunken backpacker crowd nor does it seem infused with the geriatric sex tourist brigade.

While Golden Sands may be somewhat soulless and somewhat slab sided in construction the basic rooms on offer are fine for the price, everything works and the place is well located for your jaunts either to the beaches or to any of the many local eateries and nightspots.

Perhaps not a 'couples' hotel and certainly not a 'tune in and drop out' beachside cottage style affair this is perfect for the solo traveller or group of friends looking for something safe, sane and secure as a base to explore the local area.

Room Tip: The restaurant does a tasty breakfast. ATM at the end of the hotel grounds.

My 2 American friends and I stayed one night here when we arrived in Sihanoukville. We would have stayed a week here but the hotel was fully booked. The reception and check-in went very smoothly. The hotel staff was attentive, courteous and helpful. The room was very clean and the shower had plenty of hot water. Buffet breakfast was not included in the room price. The hotel had a large and clean swimming pool. The beach was only a 5 minute walk to the beach. 2 different bar locations were also very close. Very nice hotel.

I stayed at the Golden Sand Hotel for 5 days. It is right off the main 'Golden Lions Circle' in the Center of Sihanoukville, Cambodia. It is near the beaches. The hotel is spacious and the rooms are very clean and modern. The staff is extremely polite and helpful for everything and anything you may ask or need. Including, arranging bus transportation to Phnom Phen, advice on restaurants, assistance arranging for bicycles or mopeds ($8 per 24 hours) with guards watching over them all night. The persons behind the reception desk are kind, polite, efficient and very knowledgable. They will make change on a $100 USD to smaller bills with no problem. Arrange to assist you in anyway, and are professional and always smiling, as does the entire staff! I was very impressed. I saw them render assistance to a woman in distress when no other hotel would help her, so they are compassionate also! Too bad all hotels are not like that with tourists! The breakfast was top grade, I believe from 6:30 AM until 10AM, great for late risers in the morning! I enjoyed my stay there to the fullest.

It was clean and close to the beach bars and restaurants. The wi-fi was awful and the shower could scald or freeze you depending on its mood. I hardly spent any time in the room so it was fine for what i needed.

My and my friend stayed at this hotel for a quick trip to Sihanoukville from Phnom Penh. The room was very spacious, bed were unusually hard and the furniture was from the 1970's. The staff were friendly, the breakfast was ok. Rate was 42 dollars so we didnt expect a Ritz Carlton. My friend got food poisioning eating the steak sandwich, be carefull eating that. Hotel is close to the beach. I found the whole beach scene to be unpleasant and rundown. It wasn't very clean. I can tolerate the beggars, but the beach area was a little to dirty for me. Probably wont stay here again.

I stayed here for 2 nights with a tour group. It was a 1-minute walk to the beach, where all the restaurants, bars and water sports are. There is a small cafe next the pool where you can order drinks or food and they will bring it out to you. Wasn't really in the hotel room for that much time, so can't comment much on service or other hotel facilities. BUT breakfast was very strange food for me as a Western person...and cost US $7 extra.

After a fairly longish drive from Phnom Pehn when we reached Sihanokville and turned the last corner, we came across the hotel building whose first impression was not great. on checking in, nothing really retracted that first impression. A simple hotel room, without any frills and fancies – just about a functional place to sleep. Breakfast buffet is nothing to blow you away, the regular fare.
An average hotel with average service average ambience, average food, average everything.. but not an average price...

Maybe a minor plus point is that the beach is only short walk away, but there are other places nearer the beach and at lower prices too...

Room Tip: If you do end up at this place, ask for a room facing the pool and on a higher floor - you will have...
