Hi, my name is Roel and i am from Holland. We just came back from Cambodia and we had a wonderfull holiday. Execpt at one place: Coasters and Bamboo Island. Please let me tell the story in short.
We arrived at Saturday. Everything was ok, friendly owner and manager. They helped us great with some things. We stayed there only 1 night because the next day we wanted to go to Banboo Island. Coasters has some cottages there and on the internet it looks perfect. Room at Coasters was ok, nothing spectacular, just ok.
We went to the island. The bungalows are nothing more then some wood and leaves from a palmtree, with a bed made from trees and a small matras to sleep on and a musquito net and 2 towels. This was very basic. I am quite an experienced traveller but this was too basic. No warm water, no flowing cold water, no electricity (from 6 to 10 pm there was a small generator that made a lot of noise), no clean toilet facilities, no clean showers, the water that came out the shower was brown, dirty beaches, unfriendly and uncapable staff who spoke very poor english, no telephones, nothing.
It was our intention to stay there 3 nights, but after the first night we wanted to go back to the mainland. Horrible night, the bed was the wordt one in Cambodia.
Problem was that the weather had become very bad, big waves, furious sea, hard wind, many rain. The manager from Coasters said in the morning that a boat was coming, at noon we called him and he said no boat was coming. Then we heard that a typhoon was coming. [-], now we really want to get off the island. Again a caal to the manager: i demanded a boat. Some hours later a boat came to take us back. But then the price was 50 dollars in stead of 12 dollars. Nice to atke advantage of people in need. The captain signaled that it was way to dangerous. But after 1 hour the sea was safe he said. We had our doubts. We got in the boat and we almost drowned. I was really scared. The sea was too dangerous.
Again calling to the manager and asking for a bigger boat asap. We wanted to get awy from there!!! Not possible.
Next day again calling, but no response. Then we called the British ambassee in Phnom Penh to help us. They send us a big boat (20 meters or so) to save us.
I think that it is the responsability of Coasters to look after its guests and to help them whereever and whenever they can. They failed to do so big time. They ignored us completely. We are very angry because of the lack of information and the lack of help. It is clear that our money is more important.
People, dont go to Coasters and don't go to Bamboo Island.
Kind regards, Roel
