“Clean and compact resort close to an excellent beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2013

These terrace bungalows are owned and operated by a well and establish Family. The rooms are all air conditioned, modern and tastefully decorated. the Resort has a good restaurant serving western food at around $US 4.00 per person.

Motorcycle hire is available and there are plenty of comfortable Tuk TuKs to take you around. The swimming pool is chemical free and well maintained. Ocheurteal Beach is 300 metres away and there are miles of white sand almost as far as the eye can see.

Very friendly and helpful Staff.

Room Tip: Best to choose a room overlooking the Pool. A small number are a bit dark and tucked away

Staying at Makara Bungalows was a great decision! It is steps from the beach and beachfront bars/restaurants, as well as a short walk to a group of small restaurants on the road next to the hotel. Beautiful and refreshing salt water pool (no chlorine!), and comfortable rooms. Wonderful staff - very keen to make sure everyone has a top-notch stay. New property - very clean. Stay here to be closer to the action, and spend the day (via tuk tuk) at Secret Garden's beach on Otres 2, a 10 minute ride. Beaches are cleaner, nicer on Otres 2, or the public beach near the Sokha Hotel.

Best tuk tuk driver there: Mr. Water! Make sure you visit the waterfalls...!! Awesome side trip.

We were ferried to these bungalow/villas by our tuk tuk driver after making a booking mistake elsewhere in Sihanoukville. It was a welcome surprise to arrive and be so welcomed . Obviously they wanted our business, but we negotiated 2 rooms at $23 each. Very attentive staff, good restaurant, forget about washing here- too expensive for a family, go around the corner and pay .75c per kilo! Loved the pool, nice place to test from the business of Sihanoukville!

The bungalows are very clean and well maintained. The price is reasonable for the service, location and friendly staff. Requests are dealt with promptly and always with a smile. Although the breakfast wasn't included in the price it is priced pretty much the same as other places. The pool is beautiful, clean and chemically free. The Tukk Tukk drivers who service this hotel speak good English and know the area well. Sam especially, he is an asset to the place. Over all a great experience and would definitely return.

When we arrived in Sihanoukville I asked our tuk tuk driver to take us to a guesthouse by the sea, with a swimming pool that was not expensive. He brought us to Makara Bungalows which has all three important elements. After negotiation we agree a price of $20 per night and took two bungalows for my family of five. We also hired mopeds for $6 per day each. The bungalows are clean, fresh and spacious for $20. The restaurant is efficient and charges about the going rate for food, although obviously prices for basics like bread are much much cheaper at the market! The prices that Makara wanted to charge for laundry were too expensive (50c per item) so we used another place at 0.75 per kilo.

We stayed five nights in total and would happily come again and recommend others to come here too.

Room Tip: The rooms not overlooking the pool are quieter, but then that obvious, isn't it?

We stayed a week. Room is clean and fresh and a good size. Pool is amazing. Chlorine free. Salt water. 100m from good part of beach. Manager and staff were very accommodating and friendly. They helped with every need. Great wifi. 24 hour security for my motorbike. Quick laundry. Overall great value and we were very happy.

These bungalows are just about 200m from the quite end of the Ochheuteal beach. The beach itself is beautiful, unfortunately not very clean and the beach bars in this area aren´t very inviting. To the town centre or other beaches you have to take a tuk tuk.
We stayed in a poolside bungalow. The room was nice, newly equipped and really clean. Safe is a big advantage. Pool was great. Good size and clean.
You can have a breakfast in the hotel restaurant – fresh crispy baguettes from 1 USD. Other meals were good too.
New, nice and a quiet place to stay. Good value for money.
