I wandered the strip of restaurants and guesthouses looking for a place to stay. I got turned away from a more popular Trip Advisor spot across the way, but was later pleased as it seemed to have a rat problem at the time.
These bungalows are either the newest, best thought out, and the most well taken care of. Situated in a circle away from the beach around some pleasant fish ponds are a string of 16 well built Khmer style raised bamboo bungalows. The result is clean and airy with matching bamboo furniture. The bathrooms are new, clean, with good hot water, and seemed to be the only spot on Otres with clear, clean water. There are large clay jars outside each bungalow to collect rainwater to clean your feet after going to the beach full of tiny fish to eat all the mosquitoes.
The family that runs the place is really nice and quick to help. I had one snafu where there was a wasp nest outside my bungalow which was taken care of immediately. They were also fast to change my mosquito net when I found a hole.
They also run an adjacent convenience store that is the most modern/clean store to grab drinks and snacks. There's no restaurant or beach access in the actual guesthouse but it's really not hard to walk across the street for these things. The nicer white sand is on the other end of Otres beach.
