“Lovely house and pretty gardens”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

We stayed in the Big Blue, lovely cooling ceiling fan and the best shower in the world.

Had a very interesting conversation with our host comparing the skills needed for making a beautiful garden in Kernville compared with the South Coast of England.

We sat on the porch in the evening.

Excellent breakfast, the food was set out on the table for us to choose which we wanted. So often at b&bs you have to have everything the host provides and feel bad if you either don't like it because it is not your choice for breakfast or you are just too full to eat it all.

Here we could choose what we wanted of the range of very good freshly made items, the pecan muffins were yummy.

Before we left I bought some lovely gift cards, characterful bird prints by a local artist.

Stayed one night, while on a road trip, in White Water room. Room was clean, bright, QUIET, and looked out over the kern river and the adjacent pathway. Bathroom was attached and private. The owner was eager to make our stay as pleasant as possible. We enjoyed walking along the Kern River, in the morning, with a cup of fresh coffee before breakfast was served. Walked to dinner the night before. Highly recommend Kernville and the Kern River B&B if you're looking for a quiet time in beautiful surroundings.

My wife and I stayed at the Kern River Bed & Breakfast after leaving Vegas and driving across Death Valley. We were touring the Sequoia and Yosemite parks on our way to SF. The Inn is a great place to spend the night, or a few nights. It was very comfortable, clean and the breakfast was great. I enjoyed sitting on the front porch in the morning enjoying a good cup of coffee. Kernville is a nice little town and we really enjoyed ourselves.

The Sequoia National Forest is beautiful and the Kernville Inn is a great stop on your way through.

I stayed one night at Kern River Inn while traveling from Sequoia National Part to Death Valley and this B&B is right in the middle. The room was very nicely decorated, super clean and quiet, the bed was comfortable, the breakfast tasted great.

Kernville isn't our idea of a destination location but if your travels take you through this area definitely stay here. I stayed here once about eight to ten years ago (also returning from a two week Southwestern vacation) and enjoyed the stay. The inn has actually improved in that time . . . lots of little touches, some major ones and excellent maintenance (some repairs still in progress). The accomodations are very pleasant, comfortable and extremely clean.

The only thing that we could "ding" a little was part of the breakfast . . . the eggs, fruit and coffee were great. The waffles which were homemade and then frozen seemed dry and a little hard; the chocolate chip banana muffins were definitely dry. But there was a choice of bread for toast to substitute for the other carbs. Our great hostess had a lot going on in her life during our visit which may have forced her to take a shortcut with this or that.

Virginia is a knowledgeable, very responsive and friendly hostess . . . and her arrival cookies were great.

Two traveler recommendations:

1. If you are traveling with too much luggage and aren't in the shape you once prided yourself on (both apply to us--in a word: old) try to make a reservation for the downstairs king room . . . the stairs might be an obstacle to some.

2. If you enjoy wine, obtain a bottle, ask Virginia for some glasses and head across the road to a bench or rock in the river front park. Great place in the late afternoon to listen to the babble, watch ducks bobbing, listen to the trees in the wind and to unwind after a long drive or outdoor activity. Guess you could do the same thing with a softdrink (but not us).

OMG this B&B is the finest we have ever stayed in. Squeaky clean; they even iron their sheets!!! Perfect in every way, gorgeous location flanking the river. Nice place for morning walks. Walk to shops and restaurants and enjoy an over the top breakfast spread and lounge in the comfortable leather club chairs and huge gathering areas. A sensational respite with a knowledgeable, friendly hostess who works tirelessly so you cannot locate a finer inn. Grab it you won't regret it. This is our second stay and we will be back. Thank you, Virginia!

This is a lovely inn with a great hostess. Virginia was full of great information and tips. The breakfast was all homemade and substantial. The only reason I would not give it a five was the property was a little dated. Nice room and comfy bed but a 70s style bathroom.

The location is great!
