We have vacationed along the upper Kern every summer for the past 20 years and always make it a point to have dinner at Johnny's, but were concerned when we heard there were new owners from the beach area in the OC. Well, they still serve the best steaks by far. Morton's of Chicago may have their own herds for quality control of their beef, but that which is served at Johnny's is even better, and much less expensive. For a real dining experience, you must try to eat the 40 oz Porterhouse (and you will have sandwich meat for lunch the next day too). Tender, melt in your mouth cuts are served in a family friendly, un-pretentious setting. Start off with a martini and finish with a Mud Pie. Well worth the drive. The new owners are maintaining the quality and traditions.
