“Clean campsite”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2013

This is rather a late review from out April 2013 camping trip. We have been camping here for 3 years now and counting. Some sites have trees...shade. We have been staying at site 43. It has great shade & perfect site if you own a hammock. This site can fit at least 3 3-person tent. The campground has clean bathroom, very nice and helpful host and right next to kern river. It is right next to McNally's Steakhouse (very good porterhouse steak), McNally's burger stand for the days that we don't catch fish or perfect when you just crave for ice cream in the middle of nowhere, McNally's general store which have raft rentals. The campground is <100 feet away from the Packsaddle cave hiking trail entrance where you can see stalactites. 30mins drive from Kernville town, 1 mile away from outdoor shooting range. Oh yes...it is pet friendly. There are several good fishing spots & perfect rafting entrance.

This site is about 20-30minutres North of the Lake. We stayed @ space #38 which was quite big for two tents. We did not reserve this place it was a drive by. (Reservation during summer time is highly recommended!) The site was very clean. The bathrooms are kept cleaner then most public spots. At the time of going the River was a bit shallow, i did not see a lot of big boat rafting, more of the canoe size. Will go back again.

This is a nice campground located about 30 minutes north of Lake Isabella and 30 minutes south of the "Trail of 100 Giants". We reserved space #2 which was quite private and fit two tents - one large family tent and a smaller 2-person tent. Other sites are not as private and there are a lot of large rocks so it might be difficult to set up a large 8-person tent. The bathrooms are vaulted but clean. The overall campsite is not too big, but each site seemed to have some space. There were a lot of yellow jackets so a netted eating area is recommended. A raccoon came to investigate our belongings but we had all the food well stored in the car at night.
