“Great camping minutes from Sonoma Highway and wine country.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

Visited here for the day with my wife; great staff at the park (mostly volunteer). There is a modest fee for day use (per vehicle), and an opportunity for overnight camping (additional fee but reasonable). The park provides plenty of hiking and mountain biking options; trails range from very short (about a mile) to 8 mile plus loops that will take you most of the day. Views are amazing from many places in the park. Although we did not camp, we did explore the campground for future reference. Sites are well maintained, although somewhat small; great facilities on site with restrooms and showers are available to registered campers. Park also has a small visitors center open during day hours; limited WiFi is available.

“Beautiful and rustic!”

Little known park. Can hike for some time and not come across another soul! Trails are minimally maintained so rustic and natural. I enjoyed it very much, but can see where it wold not suit all.

“Great hikes with awesome views...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013 via mobile

Spontaneous visit to the park after spending the previous day in the Jack London State Park. The trails at Sugarloaf are a bit rutty but it gives it a more natural adventure. The hills are pretty steep and the downhill side of the vista trail is rocky and steep. Recommend hiking poles for this hike. Will go again but better prepared.

“Beautiful park”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012 via mobile

Great park just a hill side drive from the Sonoma valley. Welcomed by Kevin the ranger we were the number two campers there that night. Stayed three night with some deers and other wildlife as our only company. Showers were cold due to bad weather.

“Great hiking at Sugarloaf”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

This park has miles of diverse hiking trails, a wonderful campground and observatory. There is small charge for parking. If it's hot try the the Waterfall Trail--it's completely shaded and in the spring the waterfall is spectacular, while in late summer there's a trickle of cool water. The Bald Mountain Trail is best done early as it is exposed to the sun and can get very warm in summer, but the views over to Santa Rosa, Napa, Mt Diablo and Mt Tam are spectacular. For those looking for a workout 8-10 miles of trails with lots of up- and down-hill are great training hikes, and the Goodspeed Trail can be linked to trails in adjacent Hood Mountain Regional Park. The campground is high on the mountain, nestled into a plateau and you'd never know there are towns just a few miles away.
