“A peaceful and beautiful place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2014

My wife and I spent New Year's Eve here. Not sishing to engage in noisy revelry, we chose this place for its peace and quiet and beauty. We occupied room 19 on the hill. A relativelt modest room but having all we needed including a hot tub with a great view of the ocean, a fireplace in the bedroom and small kitchenette. We dined at Alexander's restaurant a mile away but that's another story.
At midnight we sat in the hot tub and stared at the Milky Way. No light pollution here.

Ver much enjoyed our stay and will return another time.

The Fort Ross Lodge has earned favorable reviews for good reason. Our visit was even better than anticipated. Rooms, property and environment were totally welcoming. We will return for sure. While the location (12 miles north of Jenner) is remote, there are a couple of good restaurants nearby.

We always stay here overnight while going up the coast. Clean, reasonable price, very comfortable, wood-burning fireplaces. Have tried every level of room and have always been pleased. A little more rugged than some alternatives - Great cable tv but no wifi or cell service but for one night that is kind of nice. Once I was eye-to-eye with a racoon when I was in an outdoor hot tub but, hey, that is part of the charm. Just don't expect a spectacular ocean view....you might get a room with a glimpse of the ocean but that's it. Oh, yes, it is 25 minutes from River's End, where you have to go for dinner or you'll regret it. Easy 25 minute drive.

Despite the favorable reviews, we were so disappointed when we stayed here! We planned our drive so that we could stay here. The pictures are quite deceiving. I could see that the décor was a bit dated in the pictures, but the outdated décor coupled with the BUGS on our bed made for a less than romantic stay. Upon arriving, we were given cabin #1. It is the cabin nearest the office and has a window that faces the parking lot. When my husband mentioned not wanting to have incoming cars' headlights shining in our room and if we could move cabins - we were told that the only one she could rent us the $229 room because they expected to sell out of the other cabins. (And they did not sell out that night - so they could have easily moved us. I would suggest that the management keep cabin #1 reserved for guests who do not make a reservation). Since the curtain on the patio door was wide open to the cabin - it was a blazing 80+ degrees! There is also a window atop the wall that lets in light AND cooks the little bugs that make their way into the room - then they fall onto the bed/comforter!!!! There is no A/C, so the only way to cool the room was the rickety, cheap ceiling fan (with rusted pull cords). We thought the upside would be a dip in the hot tub when the evening was cool - but the hot tub was broken! As for the "private patio" - every car coming into the property passed right by us - how is that private?! The view is the ONLY upside to this place. It was comical to say the least since this was nothing like we envisioned. I would pay more money to stay in a cleaner, more welcoming property.

Room Tip: If you're looking for a good room - keep driving! If you do book, avoid cabin #1!

We are sorry to learn that your recent visit to our lodge didn't meet your expectations.
Our housekeeping department has been informed of your issue. Your concerns regarding your stay will be given top priority. I am glad that our desk staff gave you the opportunity to upgrade to a better room. The management has priced Room # 1 accordingly compared to our other King size rooms. Apparently you visited us during an exceptionally wonderful weather period. Generally our guests love the warm weather on the coast and A/C is NOT necessary on this part of the coast. We hope to have the opportunity to host you again in the future.

We were able to get away for a night--the first time in at least 3 years. My husband picked this Lodge as we used to always drive by it on the way home from Mendocino but never had the chance to stop. We stayed in Room 5 and the moment I stepped in the door, I was love! Tom & Sheila have done a wonderful job of making guests feel so welcome. Wine glasses & opener, cheese board & knife & a candle along with the great view is what we saw when we opened the door! Sitting in the hot tub outside & hearing the surf & watching the stars was like heaven! The room was clean & cozy, especially once we got the fire started. We definitely want to go back, already planning on staying in Room 24 on the hill as soon as we can get away!
Thank you Tom & Sheila!

Room Tip: Our room had a great view of the coastal sunset! Will post hopefully soon some pictures!

We spent last weekend in room #19 on the hill of the lodge. The view was spectacular. You can see the sunset from the hot tub on the patio. With all of the big trees on the hill, it felt like you were camping but with all of the amenities of home. The room was very nicely decorated. The owners were very helpful with information about the area. We would definitely go back again. The only negative was the bed was too firm for us. It could have used a pillow top. Other than that it was a great place to stay.

The Fort Ross Lodge is a really great find in the area north of Jenner. It is clean and very well maintained with beautiful grounds, garden and common sun room, plus terrific views of the ocean. The hosts are very friendly and accommodating. It is only a couple of miles from historic Fort Ross, and the rooms all have outdoor grills, so you can cook a meal while you watch the sunset over the ocean. We will stay there again, hopefully soon!

Room Tip: Almost all of the rooms have ocean views. Depending on what you need, some rooms are larger and have...
