“Reasonable for an out-of-Yosemite experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

Clean. Quiet. Reasonably priced (for Yosemite area). Hotel owners are extraordinary - very friendly and helpful, far beyond expectations. Drove into Sonora for a lovely dinner. It was pleasant weather in October so we did not need to turn on heat or air. An easy drive to Yosemite the next day.

We stayed for one night on our way out of Yosemite. The reception area looks like it has not been touched for decades. They serve breakfast in the lobby, however there is a sign asking you to take it to your room to eat as there is nowhere to sit. The rooms seem to have new beds, desks and a very large flat screen television, however the fixtures and fittings are old and worn. The room was not very clean, the headboard of the bed seemed to have been wiped with a dirty cloth and overall it felt dirty. The bedlinen looked clean, but the towels had yellow stains on. The wallpaper in the bathroom was peeling off the wall. The shower fixing was faulty and pretty much came off the wall as it was switched on. We had a nice dinner at Diamondback Grill in Sonora, which was very good and had a nice atmosphere. We booked this hotel based on the convenient location for our trip and although we knew not to expect too much for the price we were paying, the other reviews were fairly positive. Overall, we were disappointed.

This was a very nice hotel, but the thing that stands out in my mind is how helpful the front desk person, Jillian, was. She recommended two restaurants to us (I don't remember their names), and both turned out to be both reasonable in price and excellent in the quality of their food and service. Thanks Jillian.

We only stayed one night as we were en route to Sacramento and needed stopover. If we could have we would have stayed another night.

On arrival we received a warm welcome and the key to our room. We were in 314 which is third floor, but owing to a road that goes round the back of the building, was a room entered at ground level. No stairs to carry heavy bags up.

We'd booked a room with king-size bed, but never dreamt it would be so good. Very large room with king bed, sitting area with sofa and coffee table, work desk and chair, good sized fridge, microwave and large flat screen TV. It was clean and well decorated. As with most of the motels/hotels we've stayed in, the washbasin and mirror is outside the bathroom, the shower was powerful and water plentiful and hot. The bed was comfortable and all bedding very clean. Wi-Fi access fairly fast too.

Continental breakfast included and all for a very competitive price.

This motel is situated on the edge of Jamestown which is only a 1-2 minute drive away and a lovely historic town. There is also a wonderful historic railway yard, Railtown, complete with old locomotives and carriages, railway turntable and historic station buildings.

In the opposite direction is historic Sonora, about a 4-5 minute drive. So, plenty of historic buildings to see and plenty of eateries. Be aware, however, that shops in Sonora mainly closed between 5 and 5.30 - possibly because it is now late in the tourist season.

The only downside we could identify is that the motel is next to a busy road so there was some traffic noise - did not prevent a good night's sleep however and the 'problem' would be remedied by requesting a room at the end of the building furthest from the road and/or at the back of the building. No problem with noise from other guests, but the motel was not full when we were there, as it was late in the season.

If we return to this part of California area we will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: To avoid the possibility of traffic noise ask for a room furthest from the road e.g. low numbers and...

If you don't want to get any sleep then this is the place for you. The walls are paper thing and you can hear people coughing, the phone ringing and the bathroom use in the next room. The noise in the night is awful. You can hear generators and air conditioners not to mention any rowdy guests staying at the hotel. There were people lingering around our area of the hotel after 2:00 a.m. pacing and noisy. The owners (Nayna and Victor Patel) who live on the property will not answer the phone unless you let it ring over 30 times and they are rude. They don't want to be bothered and will also hang up on you. The beds are platform beds and many people in our group had bruises on their legs from bumping into them. Another person found ants in their room.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU FIND ANOTHER PLACE TO STAY!

The rooms are very large and clean.
The breakfast is very nice, fresh omelet, fruit salad and baked potatoes along with all the other stuff you'll find in a continental breakfast - much better than many other places we stayed in.
There is a very nice swimming pool.

We stayed at the Country Inn two nights. The room was large and clean. There was no microwave or refrigerator but that's ok. The bathroom was clean with no mold or bad smell. There is a small pool which closes at 9PM but when I tried to use it at 8:20PM the gate was locked and the lights were turned off. Breakfast is served until 9:30AM but when we went down the first morning at 08:45 the eggs were gone so our choice of "hot" breakfast was potatoes. There were other things to eat but everything was so disorganized. Part of the breakfast was in a kitchen area and everyone that came in had to ask were the coffee was, where the milk was, where the orange juice was. The lobby is tiny and there is no place to eat. They ask that guest take their breakfast back to their rooms because of lack of space. There was no decaf coffee not even instant. No hot water to make oatmeal. The lobby was filled with people standing or sitting trying to eat their breakfast. All-in-all it was not a pleasant experience. My wife has some cereal and we left to go find me breakfast some where else. The second morning we just went to McDonald's across town for breakfast. The motel was not a bad value for $59 a night in the Sonora area but the whole breakfast thing turned me off.
