“A wonderful weekend getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2005

My husband and I met friends in Jamestown, CA as our destination last weekend and what a wonderful, relaxing weekend we enjoyed.

The historic National Hotel has a great staff who are warm and friendly, and very ready to be of help in any way they can.

The hotel is nicely decorated as it was most likely when it was built in the 1850's.

The food and service in the dining room - OUTSTANDING! My compliments to the chef.

We did not stay here but checked out several hotels in the area. The hotel is emaculately decorated and very clean. It is centrally located in town. A dining room and bar are downstairs. They have an outdoor dining area with a vine covered terrace for shade - NICE! I was able to see a couple rooms and they looked great. Make sure you know what kind of room you are reserving because many do not have their own bathroom as in many historic hotels. The National Hotel would be my second choice, which is a couple doors down, clean, historically decorated, and some rooms are a little lower in price. Railtown is within walking distance up the street and worth checking out. Take the historic train ride, which is only about 45 minutes up and back.
Ohter things you should see in the area: New Melones Lake, Calaveras Big Trees, Columbia Historic Park, and any of the many Caverns (we went to Moaning Cavern - great experience!).
