“We Were Relieved We Didn't Get Sick...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2012

Thomi's was once a good place to have lunch. Although I didn't really like the "order at the counter, then good luck on finding a place to sit" culture they had, the food made it worth it.

Recently, my husband and I decided to have lunch at Thomi's, after a bit of a hiatus. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was no longer survival of the fittest in getting seated. They now have menus and a server seats the customers. That was, however, where my delight ended.

After ordering, our meals were brought within a reasonable time frame, but we almost wished they'd stayed in the kitchen. I had a meatloaf sandwich. The meat had an off taste. My husband had a Rueben. When we left, he told me his meat didn't taste right. We were both actually worried that we were going to be ill that night.

Fortunately, neither of us was sick - so the food must have been O.K. It just wasn't good.

All-in-all: O.K. service and bad food. Whatever happened to the good food that Thomi's once had?

Not a fancy restaurant with average food. They have a pretty good selection of pies.

“Average at best”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2012 via mobile

We had the same experience as a prior reviewer, nobody helped us for the first few minutes after we arrived and we were left standing and wondering if we should wait or seat ourselves. We stayed.

A bit expensive for the run of the mill quality of food and service. Five for lunch, two salads, one sandwich, two kids meals and sodas was $50. The only meals that stood out were the kids meals, $5/each for a hearty serving of French toast, eggs and sausage (which was very tasty). Yes, the kids had breakfast for lunch, it is served until dinner time.

I'd be willing to try this place once more for breakfast just based on the size and quality of the kids meals.

“downward trend”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2012

Thomi's Cafe opened in Sutter Creek several years ago and has now expanded to two other nearby locations. With each opening the quality has gone downhill, and the "chain" now shows all the pitfalls of multiple locations--inconsistent food preparation and erratic service. The menu is standard coffee shop fare, even though the management has slightly higher ambitions. While the concept may impress, the execution is often lacking. Breakfast one morning in the Jackson location resulted in an overcooked omelet, served lukewarm. Lunch at the same location took forever to arrive and the food had obviously been awaiting pickup in the kitchen for several minutes. The "Reuben" is a disaster and must be avoided. The pastrami was of inferior quality--it had an unappealing texture, color and taste, and the sandwich was composed of cole slaw rather than the traditional sauerkraut, resulting in bread that was soggy and disintegrated before the first bite. Portions are ample, but what's the point if the quality isn't there? Burger with fries is a safer choice--if you are lucky to get a waitress who is on the ball.

“Much better than Thomi's in Jackson.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2012

After several poor experiences at the Thomi's in Jackson, we decided to give the Moke Hill branch a try. Were we ever glad we did! What a difference 7 miles can make. We were seated promptly and got water and menus right away. My wife and I ordered their Taco Salad with chicken. Great combinations of fresh chopped lettuce, tomatoes, and chicken in a crisp and dry red chili tortilla shell. It was a wonderful departure from the sad looking food and lackadaisical service we were given by the Jackson Thomi's.
