I am always looking for a new place in Amador county. The lodge staff was very friendly and helpful. The lodge is somewhat worn and shows its age, but it was clean. I found the bed and pillows not very comfortable and I missed not having a fridge or microwave in my room. My tub was plugged and the sink wasn't functioning properly. I loved the view out the back. I would rate this lodge acceptable for the price (my single room cost $70). Most of the other properties charge more, and as a single traveler, i am looking for a place to crash that doesn't break the bank.

The reservation was smooth and friendly.
We had a room on the first floor, it has vaulted ceiling which gives a feeling of more space. The room give on the other side of the highway so it is quiet. The view from the window is nice. The room was clean. The breakfast was so-so, but all hotels in that price range have poor breakfast. If you want a good meal to start the day you can go to Mel's down the road.

We just returned from a mid-week stay at the Jackson Lodge in Jackson, CA. We were travelling with our 2-1/2 year old son and two small dogs, and needed a place that was both kid and dog friendly--this was just the spot!

We stayed in one of the cabins. These are actually duplex units, but each has a separate entrance and feels very private. The cabins are older units, but everything was very clean and in great condition. Our cabin had a good-sized living room, a small dining area, and a fully-equipped kitchen, including an oven/stove, full-size refrigerator, microwave, toaster, and sink. The bedroom was large enough to accomodate a king-size bed and still had plenty of space for a small inflatable bed for our toddler. The bathroom was pretty typical--tub, shower, sink and toilet--and very clean. There was a lot of closet/storage space in the unit and we were very comfortable. Also, each cabin unit has a small, fenced patio that makes it easy to enjoy some fresh air and not lose the kid or dogs. :)

The setting was nice--plenty of lawn for kids to play and separate lawns for walking the dogs. The back of the property is bordered by a wooded area and we really enjoyed the beautiful fall foliage. We had a great visit and will be back again in the future to enjoy Gold Country once again!

  • Liked — It was very spacious for the money and very accomodating of both kids and dogs.

For the past two years, we have been staying at this lodge at least once a month for 2 - 3 nights at at time. We always stay in the cabins and find that they are always clean and comfortable. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. My 3-year old loves the place because the frogs come out at night and the pool is great. My husband and I enjoy the fact that we can cook in our cabin (so we don't have to go to restaurants with a 3-year old.) We also meet interesting fellow travelers and have found most people very nice that lodge there. The cost is very reasonable, too. We've taken up friends and family, and they have enjoyed the place, also.

Bloody sheets, dirty dishes, bad shower - overpriced motel with a nice website

The motel itself was a disappointment; despite being billed as a "lodge," it is just a garden-variety motel. The "cabins" are actually attached to another "cabin," so the privacy/seclusion of the cabin isn't much more than you'd get in a regular motel room.

One of the pillowcases on our bed hadn't been washed since the last use - it was wrinkled, and was covered in hairs and blood spots!

There was a dirty dish in the microwave.

The shower was really enjoyable until the person in the adjoining "cabin" also attempted to take a shower, at which point, I had to participate in the age-old sport of jumping in and out of alternately scalding and freezing water.

In short, a disgusting, uncomfortable stay.

Management response from Michael Clausen, owner/operator
(Management representative)
Aug 31, 2007
We are always saddened when one of our guests has a bad experience with us. Especially when it is our fault. We offer no excuses for the experience that this guest had. We only wish that the guests had said something to us upon discovering these problems, so that we could have moved them to another room, which had been properly cleaned.
We pride ourselves on our cleanliness and it is amazing how one housekeeper can damage the reputation of a good property in one day. That housekeeper was dismissed immediately and we have instituted a new inspection process. We continue to strive to provide our guests with the best experience possible.
