I used to go to Gulliver's, back in the 80's, when there wasn't nearly as much competition in nice restaurants in the North Orange County area. I also loved Houlihan's Old Place which was in the same vicinity but has long gone the way of so many other good places to eat. And another reason for staying away for so long - I live within walking distance of some good restaurants in Old town Orange; which makes it very easy to enjoy that bottle of wine and not have to drive home. Anyway, my husband had never been there, and we both love a good prime rib, and it was my birthday, so that was my choice. I was SO happy to renew my old acquaintance with Gulliver's. They serve other entrees, but I have never had them, so all I can pass on is the experience of their Prime Rib/Yorkshire Pudding/Creamed Corn/Creamed Spinach dinner. It is decadent, rich, and done perfectly - no surprise after so many years of practice. Definitely from another era when calories and fat consciousness was not such an issue. But for a birthday dinner? Absolutely! And another personal positive was that it was decked out for Halloween. That was awesome! Anyway, I think the only negatives were from my husband, and the fact that he didn't care for the creamed corn was probably just a matter of taste (too rich, I think), but his prime rib was almost cold. THAT is unacceptable. He could have complained, but he didn't. Bottom line, when I go back again, which I will for another special occasion someday, I will make a point to the server - with a smile - that the meat needs to be served warm enough. Oh yes, my complimentary birthday English trifle was lovely! And, lest I forget - I signed up for their birthday club and got $15.00 off of dinner (good during the month of your birthday). If there was an "Average Plus", I would give it that.
